Life can be unpredictable and challenging, but faith and trust in God can help us to overcome hardship and tragedy. The touching story behind the hymn reflects this. Within several years, Horatio Spafford lost his four-year-old son to scarlet fever, his business to the Great Chicago Fire, and his four daughters who went down with the shipwrecked S.S. Ville du Havre on a transatlantic voyage. The lyrics reflect on Spafford’s personal experience of great loss, and his finding peace and comfort in his faith in God.
It is well with my soul is a beautiful hymn which speaks to me. If it touches you also, I’ve made a new free printable, “It is well with my soul.” I do love surrounding my home with reminders of what’s important in life. The print is sized 8″ x 10″.
