(Amaryllis is a subtropical bulb that belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family and is native to South Africa. It is grown as a potted plant in most parts of the United States but can also be grown outdoors year round in warm areas like Florida.)
In March I shared my next door neighbor’s amaryllis, and last week I shared photos of amaryllis at a neighbor’s yard down the street. Today I’m happy to share my first amaryllis blooms this spring right by my front porch. My amaryllis have always bloomed later than most in my neighborhood here in central Florida. If you’ve visited last fall, you may remember that due to a cold spell in November followed by a return to the 90’s, some of my amaryllis bloomed out of season in December. See Mother Nature Is Confused for those blooms. I wasn’t sure how many blooms I would have this spring but am really happy with these bright red flowers.
