I’d like to thank all my readers who sent messages of concern last week when the hurricane blew by Florida. I sincerely appreciate your support. As expected here in central Florida away from the coast, we had a tropical storm warning (not a hurricane warning), rain, and wind. Yes, other areas were not so lucky. Tampa had extensive flooding and property destruction.

The next day was a regular sunny day with blue skies and puffy white clouds. I hope you enjoy the beautiful day I’m sharing. I wish you all beautiful days where you live.

Last Amaryllis on a Spring Day

I live in Central Florida, growing zone 9B which is semi-tropical. Amaryllis is a subtropical bulb that belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family and is native to South Africa. It is grown as a potted plant in most parts of the United States but can also be grown outdoors year round in warm areas like Florida. Amaryllis sold at Christmas are FORCED bulbs.

Neighborhood Skies of Blue

Most days in Florida are sunny days with blue skies with highs from 78 to 90 degrees F depending on the month. We were warned last weekend that a cold front was coming down to Florida on Wednesday. It’s here and for me it’s cold. It’s 51 degrees F. The high is expected to be 69 degrees. Those of you who live up north can laugh and enjoy that comment. I laughed when I first moved to Miami in my 20’s decades ago when the highs would dip. Everyone around me was cold and I’d say this isn’t cold. Three years later I had adapted to hot and often humid weather and I was cold when the temperatures lowered. For the next few days the highs slowly go up each day until we’ll be in the 80’s Saturday. The problem with lower temperatures is how most homes are constructed in Florida. I’ve mentioned before that most homes are CBS – concrete block structures built on a pad of concrete as a foundation. Theoretically concrete never really hardens. I just know that when the temperature goes down there is a cold damp feeling in the house even the temperature in the house is only a few degrees lower. This can make my arthritis ache. Turning on the heat for 5 minutes helps burn it off.

A Small Cottage For Sale In The Neighborhood

Do you ever drive around your neighborhood and look at houses?  Sometimes I do as I like to see how other people landscape their gardens. When it’s a beautiful day and I don’t want to stay inside, then seeing  the blue skies and green grass makes me happy.  This small home a few blocks from me has a similar layout as mine.
