Greet The Day In The Garden

I live in Central Florida, growing zone 9B which is semi-tropical. Amaryllis is a subtropical bulb that belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family and is native to South Africa. It is grown as a potted plant in most parts of the United States but can also be grown outdoors year round in warm areas like Florida. Amaryllis sold at Christmas are FORCED bulbs. Blooming season is January to June.

If I want to enjoy the garden in the summer here in central Florida, I usually go out early in the morning. The heat and humidity in July is extreme, and the extreme brightness of the sun during the day makes taking photos much harder. This morning I went out just after sunrise to greet the day.

My End of April Flowers

Since I am not supposed to drive (think lack of range of motion with a neck brace!) I don’t exactly see lots of things to photograph. Most of the time I do not have the energy. Walking in an uneven place like my yard isn’t really too smart either with my current limitations and equipment. However, within last 10 days I did take several photos of my still blooming amaryllis. (for more information about my surgery, see ACDF & My Cup Overflows)

Spring Amaryllis Blooms

First I wanted to let everyone know I am at home recuperating from my surgery on Monday. It will be a slow recovery, but I’m happy to report my pain is less than before surgery. Thanks for your support.

Last week I shared my first amaryllis blooms of white flowers. This week photos of the continued white flowers with the addition of red amaryllis. Despite the worse drought in 10 years here in Florida, I still have amaryllis blooms to lift my heart.

Visions of Amaryllis – Amaryllis, Snapdragons and Pink Begonia Bouquet

This post was originally shared on April 20, 2016. I was a new blogger and my photo composition wasn’t great. This is one of my all-time favorite bouquets. I purchased it at the farmer’s market. The amaryllis flowers are larger than the ones in my yard. I remember the petals looked like velvet. I’ve re-edited some photos, and I hope you enjoy a second view.

The beautiful red of amaryllis still fills yards in my area, bright red heads standing watch over gardens. I brought the colors in to the bedroom for a bouquet of colors – red amaryllis, snapdragons, and pink begonias.

For the last few weeks, several red amaryllis have formed buds and then bloomed.

Spring Arrives in Central Florida

Amaryllis is a subtropical bulb that belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family and is native to South Africa. It is grown as a potted plant in most parts of the United States but can also be grown outdoors year round in warm areas like Florida. Amaryllis flower in the late winter through early spring in central Florida.

For several weeks central Florida kept getting cold spells as storms crossed the country.  Not cold like up north but below our average for winter.  I wasn’t out seeing the neighborhood or noticing neighbor’s gardens.  This last weekend it warmed up and I’ve been riding and going out in the car a lot this last week.

Snowy Blossoms & Amaryllis

Two weeks ago I shared a spring flowering tree with white blossoms falling like snow.  The tree is still showering the ground with white blossoms.  I believe it is a type of azalea that grows as a multi-trunk small tree.  Now the ring of amaryllis around the tree are in bloom.  Spring has arrived in Central Florida.
