I discovered his ideas some years ago during a conference. I made an 8″ x 11″ sheet with this essay and laminated it and added a magnet. I have had it on my refrigerator ever since.

I love to surround myself with things that I love for their beauty and their emotional significance. My decor is built on a collection of items that I was given, bought, or inherited. My collection was started many years ago and  includes furniture, paintings, and other items that remind me of my family, friends, and my faith. New decor is added and discarded as my taste changes, but the collection of favorite things remains. One of my favorite items is a frame decorated with vintage jewelry made for me by a friend for my birthday.

Alstroemeria, Snapdragons, & Burlap

Yesterday when I went to Tasty Tuesday farmer’s market, one of my favorite growers was not there. It is almost the end of April, and he is at home getting ready to close-up his garden and pack for his trip back to Maine. Jim is an inspiring man who loves to grow things and lives a lifestyle of harmony. He lives in Maine from May to October growing crops, canning and selling his produce and flowers. In October, he loads up his truck and arrives back at his home in New Port Richey, Florida. He then sells apples, pumpkins, and various produce along with his canned products from the summer while he plants his front yard for his winter crop. His lifestyle does not conform to society’s expectations but provides him immeasurable happiness. He lives to grow. Read More
