As usual for August in central Florida, we’ve had rain and some storms in late afternoons daily for several weeks. Moisture builds up in the air over the Gulf of Mexico, and in the afternoon it moves east onto land.

Summer Bouquet
I was grocery shopping this week when I saw the flower display. I realized it had been quite some time since I bought flowers. Nothing adds to a room like real flowers. I bought two inexpensive small bunches of flowers and made a summer arrangement.
Last week I mentioned that I had purchased a small side table on Facebook Marketplace. I added the bouquet to the new table beside the sofa.

I live in Central Florida, growing zone 9B which is semi-tropical. Amaryllis is a subtropical bulb that belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family and is native to South Africa. It is grown as a potted plant in most parts of the United States but can also be grown outdoors year round in warm areas like Florida. Amaryllis sold at Christmas are FORCED bulbs. Blooming season is January to June.
If I want to enjoy the garden in the summer here in central Florida, I usually go out early in the morning. The heat and humidity in July is extreme, and the extreme brightness of the sun during the day makes taking photos much harder. This morning I went out just after sunrise to greet the day.

Lagerstroemia, commonly known as crepe myrtle, is a genus of around 50 species of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs native to the Indian subcontinent, southeast Asia, northern Australia, and parts of Oceania, cultivated in warmer climates around the world. It is very popular here in the southeastern USA in growing zones 6 to 10.
Spring is one of my favorite times of year here in central Florida with flowering trees, bushes, and amaryllis. When summer comes, I always look forward to the crepe myrtle trees flowering. I see them everywhere as they are very popular. The second year I was living in my home, an old dying tree in the front yard was leaning toward my neighbor’s home. I had it cut down. The next year I planted a small crepe myrtle tree with hot pink blossoms in the old tree’s spot in the front yard. Several days ago I took photos to share. It’s crepe myrtle time!

Happy 4th of July to All Americans! Photos are courtesy of my friends Marge and her daughter Terri who live in the greater Nashville area. Thank you!
Back many years ago in my 20’s, I lived in Nashville, Tennessee, and met a wonderful lady at work named Marge. I was just out of college my second year while Marge had been married since high school graduation and had 3 children. She invited me home to dinner and the rest is history. We’ve been friends through the decades and are both retired. Her eldest child is Terri who is a grandmother herself now. We’ve visited Terri’s garden quite a few times, but today we’ll start with a few shots of Marge’s garden around her deck.

Here in central Florida we’re really into hot summer weather by May and June continues it with more rain. Our dry season is winter. The rainy season runs from May 15 to October 15 for Southwest Florida and from May 25 to October 10 for the rest of West Central Florida. My area around the Tampa area is more west central Florida. We had little to no rain late winter into spring. Finally in May we started to have a significant rainfall. June has meant the last week of rain storms late afternoon and early evening as moisture came in from the Gulf of Mexico. The rain has encouraged more flowers to bloom.

Today I’d like to take you on a drive. I want to get out and enjoy a beautiful day. I like to see the landscaping around residential communities. Palm trees, bushes, and flowers are usually there. Most of today’s photos are from a condo neighborhood.

Today’s spring photos are from my friend Diane who lives in the greater Detroit area. One day spring was everywhere in her garden. I do love tulips which of course do not grow in hot Florida. Thanks Diane!
Spring is my favorite time of year. As a child, it seemed a miracle when things around me came alive after the drab, gray days of winter. I do miss a northern spring and all the beautiful spring flowers like daffodils, tulips, forsythia, and lilacs. When I lived in Michigan, it was like a fairy land when you woke up to a sea of yellow blossoms on bushes everywhere or tulips in all the yards. I now experience northern spring vicariously through the photos of others. Florida does not get cold enough for all these beauties.
