African Iris (Dietes vegeta) – also known as “Butterfly Iris”
African iris grows best in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. It will tolerate several hours of shade but requires at least 6 hours of bright sun to bloom well. USDA Growing Zones 8 to 11
Northern iris like bearded don’t grow here in Florida. I got this tropical iris some years back from a garden club plant sale. It mostly blooms during the wet (summer) season as it likes wet feet. It is white with delicate shadings of lilac that I find hard to capture. I rarely share photos of it. In the bright Florida sun the shadings tend to disappear in photos.
