Read MoreI’ve mentioned before that I like to surround myself with things that have meaning for me whether it’s a painting by my father, my grandmother’s “ear bobs”, or words from scripture or a hymn. This time of year is perfect for a daily reminder for a healthy outlook on life. Letting go of the past can be difficult. Events like a problem in a close relationship, a perceived failure or bad decision, or a really bad experience can disrupt our lives. Lingering feelings of anger, doubt, grief, or guilt can rob of us of happiness.

My family has made many fall drives in the countryside through the years admiring the colorful foliage of Michigan. The day would usually end at a good restaurant and laughing together. Other weekends we visited the apple mills for fresh Michigan apples, cider, and fresh-baked pies. Sweet memories.
