Back at the beginning of November, I discussed simple Thanksgiving place settings. We’re now at the end of November, and our thoughts are filled with Christmas. Have you put your tree up yet? Many of us start decorating the weekend after Thanksgiving. Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, there are many types of get togethers including a brunch with friends, an afternoon tea, a holiday party, Christmas dinner, and New Year’s Eve. If you are having guests for Christmas dinner or a party, you’re probably in the planning mode now. Deciding on the menu and dividing up the dishes among us is what happens in my family. Christmas Buffalo Plaid Table
Last week I shared my mixed poinsettia planter. This week I made a Christmas tablescape using a Christmas buffalo plaid tablecloth I got last year at after Christmas sales. I placed the mixed poinsettias on a sliced log with a few pine cones and white bird salt and pepper shakers.

Burlap, Lace & Birds Holiday Table
Holiday tables can range from your everyday china to pieces decorated with Santas, Snowmen, and Christmas trees. When I was a child, my mother always used a lace tablecloth, her good china, and silverware for holidays and special occasions. I like to vary what I use but honestly, who has room for dozens of china patterns? I certainly don’t. When I downsized for retirement a few years ago, I gave my nephew my mother’s china and her silverware. I have three sets of four for everyday china and a few pieces of other patterns from thrift stores. My tables are simple with a centerpiece or flowers and either a tablecloth, runner, or place mats. Your home can be warm and festive without owning a department store full of china or spending a lot of money. You can’t beat a good set of white china or a burlap runner for any occasion. Read More
