April in Nashville, Tennessee

Today’s photos were taken by my friend Teri in Nashville, Tennessee. The flowers are in her mother’s yard. I do thank the ladies for sharing.

I met Marge decades ago at work in Nashville, when I was in my twenties. We hit it off, and she invited me home for dinner. For the next few years (until I moved to Florida), I was often sitting at the kitchen table with her and her family. Her oldest was a cute 10 year old named Teri. Needless to say time has flown, and Teri is now a grandmother. She’s a great help to her mother who is now in her eighties.

My End of April Flowers

I live in Central Florida, growing zone 9B which is semi-tropical. Amaryllis is a subtropical bulb that belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family and is native to South Africa. It is grown as a potted plant in most parts of the United States but can also be grown outdoors year round in warm areas like Florida. The red amaryllis you buy at Christmas are FORCED bulbs.

Since I am not supposed to drive (think lack of range of motion with a neck brace!) I don’t exactly see lots of things to photograph. Most of the time I do not have the energy. Walking in an uneven place like my yard isn’t really too smart either with my current limitations and equipment. However, within last 10 days I did take several photos of my still blooming amaryllis. April in Sims Park, New Port Richey, Florida

Withlacoochee River: The name “Withlacoochee” is derived from one of Florida’s Native American tribes, the Creek.  It means “Little Big Water”, which makes sense as both floods and droughts have caused the water levels to rise or drop many times over its history.  Another meaning is “crooked river”, which accurately describes the twists and turns it makes on its way towards the Gulf of Mexico.

Close to my home is a wondeful small town, New Port Richey, Florida. I’ve shared photos taken in New Port Richey before. Sims Park has been featured in several posts. Last week I stopped by the park early one morning. It was a beautiful spring day with blue skies, mild temperatures, and low humidity. These days are gold because summer in Florida is really hot and humid.

The white frangipani (Plumeria alba) is a deciduous plumeria tree that is native to tropical areas.
