Recently I bought a new holiday planter with red poinsettia and vines in a small gold tub. I added a chocolate Santa and gold elements to give it height and placed it on my green Depression glass cake stand. This is the inspiration for my table.

Years ago when I was in Junior High School, I took a required Home Ec class. One of the few things I still remember from that class was broiled or baked grapefruit. Back in the 1960’s it was a hot treat for a hostess to serve.
I’m all about Christmas right now. Today I’m sharing a beautiful table of vintage china and a shining Snowman.
Holiday tables can range from your everyday china to pieces decorated with Santas, Snowmen, and Christmas trees. When I was a child, my mother always used a lace tablecloth, her good china, and silverware for holidays and special occasions. I like to vary what I use but honestly, who has room for dozens of china patterns? I certainly don’t. When I downsized for retirement a few years ago, I gave my nephew my mother’s china and her silverware. I have three sets of four for everyday china and a few pieces of other patterns from thrift stores. My tables are simple with a centerpiece or flowers and either a tablecloth, runner, or place mats. Your home can be warm and festive without owning a department store full of china or spending a lot of money. You can’t beat a good set of white china or a burlap runner for any occasion. Read More
I love hummus and eat it often with vegetables and bean chips. I’ve had regular hummus, black bean hummus, and white bean hummus. I recently discovered Roasted Eggplant & White Bean Hummus which gives it a new spin on the classic recipe. My favorite grower at the local farmer’s market is producing a bumper eggplant crop right now and brought Roasted Eggplant & White Bean Hummus to sell. I tried it and I was hooked.
I made my Halloween table with several items from Publix, my printer, and the rest is from Dollar Tree. Several weeks ago, I was shopping at Publix supermarket when I spied the Halloween display. I was drawn to the furry spiders. I bought a large one and two small ones. The next week they had added the colored light ghosts which looked so cute. I then had many ideas of how I would use them in a table.
Read MoreDo you like spinach sautéed with olive oil and garlic? I love it! I like most greens – collards, kale, chard. I also like simple, easy one dish meals. I’ve been adding more plant-based meals for my health for the last several years. One of my favorite lunches is garlicky greens and beans.
When I visit my sister in Michigan every August, I always look across the street at her neighbor’s yard. There are two small trees whose leaves turn early for fall. Living in Florida, this is the closest I get to autumn leaves.
