Key West, Florida – the name makes me think of beautiful coral reefs, Ernest Hemingway, Audubon House & Garden, conch fritters, conch chowder, Key lime pie, and of course beautiful sunsets. My first visit to Key West was during my vacation in 1977 that convinced me I was moving to Florida. Key West is a relaxed community which is a tourist haven all year long. Read More

If you visit the Tampa Bay area and love beaches, wildlife, and history, you must spend a day at Fort De Soto County Park. Located off St. Petersburg, Florida, Fort De Soto Park is the largest county park in Pinellas County and consists of 1,136 acres made up of five interconnected islands (keys). These keys are home to beach plants, mangroves, wetlands, palm hammocks, hardwoods and scores of native plants. Each of these species plays a vital role in the preservation and protection of the natural environment.

Wood Storks in the Neighborhood

The wood stork is a large American wading bird in the stork family Ciconiidae. It was formerly called the “wood ibis”, though it is not an ibis. It is found in subtropical and tropical habitats in the Americas, including the Caribbean.

 

 

It’s still warm and beautiful here in Florida. Over by my friend’s house on the lake, lots of birds come to visit.  Today’s photos are of a couple of wood storks in her yard.
