UPDATE ON MANATEES
I was really worried about the manatees down at the springs last Sunday as the panhandle experienced freezing temperatures. There were over 800 of them at Two Sisters Springs hovering.

On Sunday, January 18, 2026 ![]()
light snow fell in Blackwater River State Forest near Baker, Florida.

These beautiful
snow pictures were shared by Alan Jonny on Facebook on Monday, January 17th.

I hope you have a blessed day!

That’s a rarity for your neck of the woods. It’s lovely!
Gosh…ain’t these gorgeous!
That is so weird to see snow on palm trees! Hope the manatees were fine.
…Carol, not what Florida expects, stay warm and well.
Ah, that is my kind of snow. Falls lightly and goes away and is very beautiful in between. We were amazed to read about snow in Florida.
Your photos are lovely of the snow ~ here in the North ~ more snow expected and will last quite awhile ~ so ready for “Spring. hugs,

Beautiful snowy scenes. I hope you and the manatees kept warm enough though!
Stunning photos! Seeing the manatees huddled together at the springs is such a relief! It’s amazing how they all gathered to stay safe from the freezing temperatures.
Survival instints – they can die when water is below 68 F or 20 C
Who would ever expect to see snow in Florida? The photos are beautiful but like you I feel for the wildlife that is not used to cold weather. On the rare occasion when it gets into the 40’s in South Florida, the iguanas actually drop out of the trees in a dormant state.
Manatees are highly susceptible to cold stress and cannot survive for long in water temperatures below 68°F (\(20 C)) due to their low metabolic rate.
I know it snowed lightly the year after I moved out of Florida (according to a cousin who is a Florida native) but, of course, I never saw it. Some lovely pictures and I hope the palm trees weren’t damaged. I also know that manatees have very little cold tolerance. Back around 2018 we visited Blue Springs and saw some but not in these conditions. Alana ramblinwitham
Beautiful shots!
Let’s hope the manatees have survived this stressful conditions. Love the snowy scenes.
