Christmas 2025 at The Condo

This is my second year celebrating Christmas in the condo in Lakeland, Florida. Many of you may remember 2 years ago I was madly giving away, throwing away, and packing to move in January 2024. I can’t say I exactly did much in terms of decorating for the holidays. I was undecorating my home period. Last year I put up my tree and decorated. I was still feeling a little unsettled after a year in my new home. The truth is moving by yourself in your 70’s is hard, and I don’t recommend it. It took me a year to come back from that move.

This past year has seen me settling in my home. I’ve re-evaluated some things I brought from my house as they didn’t quite fit as well here. I’ve re-arranged and re-organized. This has included my reassessment of Christmas decorations. In your comments last week I agree with all of you who love Christmas trees. For the last three or four months, I’ve been going through my closets. I’ve lost weight in the last two years, (yeah!) and I always have a box or bag to give away things. I started with large clothes. When I started going through all my Christmas boxes, I gave away tablecloths, place mats, and runners I was tired of using. For the last 3 to 4 years, I’ve required help putting up my tree and decorating it. It was too big for me with my arthritis. I gave away my 6-foot Christmas tree and some decorations. Two weeks ago I drove my loaded car to the thrift store drop off and I emptied it. I felt a burden off my shoulders.

My new tree undecorated

I wanted something different and also easier on me. I will be 78 in April, and I want to stay independent. I bought a smaller tree, all silver and prelit with a star on top. I can put it up myself and decorate it. This year I added red ornaments, and it’s very pretty. I’m already thinking I could look for blue ornaments for next year!

My accent colors around the living room, dining room are red and silver. I have a few new decorations and will probably add something else next year.

I’m enjoying the prelite snowglobe lantern Heather & James gave me last Christmas. It has snow people with whirling snow and is from Amazon. My photos just show a shiny blur. Therefore, I am also showing something similar from Amazon this year.

I love lots of lights and love this lantern. I turn it on and it works for a certain number of hours and automatically turns off. Then the next day at a certain hour it turns on again.

On the dining table is my new gold & silver metal stag.
On the dining room wall is the fawn print.

My front door wreath:

I wish you a joyous December. I probably won’t post again until after Christmas. I’ll talk to you then. Happy Holidays!

  1. Carol, I love your Christmas decorations, I could not agree more, moving later in life is a job, I turned 70 as we settled into the move here in Texas. You have done a great job of settling in. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

    1. I dearly love the wooden one. I was so lucky to get it several years ago. I know Chanukah is over now, but I hope you had fun with the dreidel.

  2. I am glad you are finally feeling settled in your home. It sounds like you have been busy decluttering. Good on you for donating the big tree and getting a smaller one, it looks so pretty and what lovely festive touches you have around your condo.

  3. Carol – I can imagine the release when you dropped off all those “old” things. It sounds like it was the end of your “grieving” over the change, and this was the sign you were truly ready for your new beginning. So happy for you! Love your decorations! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  4. It seems the older we get, the less inclined to decorate. It does feel so good to give away things that we no longer use. I love all your decor, and the new tree looks like a perfect fit for you! The red ornaments are lovely! Merry Christmas to you!

  5. Yes , I agree that things do get more challenging as we get older and a move is major- the basic physical work to move, the letting go of things we loved, and adjustment to a new place.- not easy!!! I’m glad you are beginning to feel more settled and enjoying some Christmas decorating again. Wishing you good health and a very merry Christmas.

  6. I hope your Christmas was lovely, Carol. You may have culled your decorations but the ones you have kept (or have been given) are beautiful and your home looks merry and comfortable. I think it always takes awhile to settle, don’t you? This works perfectly! Happy Boxing Day to you, and new year, too.

  7. Hi Carol! Your trees are very pretty and love how you decorate them, plus your other decorative touches. I can see getting smaller trees myself. There are usually two I decorate but I only had the energy to do the one this year in the family room, and it took me longer. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!

  8. So happy to hear you are more settled in your home, Carol. Moving house is hard going, so I really appreciate where you are coming from with that.
Your decorations are beautiful. Wishing you a very Happy New Year, my friend. I hope it’s full of happiness and good health. 🙂

I love to make new friends and get to know you.
