November Record Breaking Lows & Northern Lights in Florida

A record breaking cold front traveled south all the way to Florida. Cold temperatures pushed into Florida on Tuesday morning, toppling record lows for Nov. 11 that in some cases had stood for multiple decades.

On November 8th, Publix Supermarket was selling both beach supplies and firewood. Last Saturday the high was 85 degrees F while Tuesday morning the low was in the 30’s. It is predicted that next weekend will be back in the 80’s F.

  1. That’s definitely chilly for Florida! Glad it has warmed back up. Thank you for sharing those lovely photographs of the Northern Lights, Carol!

    1. Tuesday the low in Lakeland was in the 30’s. I didn’t enjoy that. I’ve loved cooler days with lower humidity befor the recent cold front.

  2. Wow, many of those temps were even colder than ours! I was so bummed to have missed the northern lights though; even though I did get up to look mid-way through the night I just could not see them.

  3. Oh my goodness you have had some cold weather but it’s crazy how it was so warm, so cold and then warming back up. How wonderful to see the Northern Lights though, they really are beautiful!

    1. It’s amazing to wake up to freezing lows when it still highs in the 80’s F 2 days before. I spent 3 days this week witting with a heating pad on my back. The loq temperaturea made my arthritus in my back ache. Yikes!

  4. We also saw the Northern Lights in our sky this week–they were so bright and beautiful! I also heard that Denver was warmer than Florida when your area got the cold front. There has been such mild and snowless weather along the CO front range this fall==so odd!

  5. It’s hard to comprehend how cold it got in Florida and also hard to comprehend that the Northern Lights made the way all the way to the south! Here it’s been raining a lot but we expect heavy rain at this time of year. For some reason it’s always a surprise, lol.

  6. I lived in walking distance of Bayshore Boulevard in Tampa many, many years ago and that picture was fantastic – it’s something I would never expect to see. Loved all the Northern Lights photos – with our usual November cloudiness in New York StateI never got to see any of them. Fantastic photo post. Alana ramblinwitham

    1. My family lives in the greater Detroit area. From October to spring, the sun is often hidden behind gray skies. I hate that.

  7. Is this the first time for Northern lights to be seen in Florida? I enjoyed seeing various photographs. Shocked that the water froze on the cars. I hope you have a fireplace or heat in the building you live in. Take care. Be well.

    1. Northern lights are not exactly common in Florida. I can’t remember about last January. There was a deep freeze front that ran across the Gulf Coast and I found loads of photos on Gulf Coast Beaches with snow on the sand

  8. After being in cold weather on the gulf coast, I can attest that cold on the beach is very cold.

I love your sunset sky. I also love and am totally jealous of your northern lights photos. Everybody I know in Oklahoma goes out in their yard at night recently and are great NL photos. Me nothing!! I’m a northern lights failure.

    1. Oh me too Alan! I wasn’t thinking of going out in near freezing temperatures for photos. I tried to give credit for each photo according to postings on Facebook.

  9. Wow! That is extreme. And I can’t believe the northern lights made it all the way down to Florida.

  10. Wow that is pretty cold. We were in Miami last year around this same time and we in shorts.
    Love the northern light photos.

    1. It was 85 degrees the Saturday before; cold front came late on Monday. By the next weekend it was back in the 80’s F. Sometimes we get weird weather, but that cold front low broke a record low from 1860.

I love to make new friends and get to know you.
