Fayette Historic State Park is the state park of the historic town of Fayette, Michigan. It is located on the Big Bay de Noc of Lake Michigan on the southern side of the Upper Peninsula.
Photos by James Murphy
My nephew, James, and his wife, Heather, spend a lot of time camping in the summer. One of their favorite locations for camping is on Lake Michigan in the Upper Peninsula close to Historic Fayette, Michigan. I thank James for his beautiful photographs of the lake and woods.

Below is one of the furnaces in the remains of Fayette, a 19th Century community. The 711-acre Fayette Historic State Park blends both nature and history. The park features a historic townsite, harbor slips, a boat launch, a beach and campgrounds.

…this certainly is a beautiful destination.
It’s beautiful territory up there and your photos are wonderful.
James is a good photographer
Wow, those are some really lovely photos! What a beautiful area to camp.
Beautiful photos of this beachy area of the park on Lake Michigen. It looks like a shady, cool, and undcrowded place to relax on a hot summer day!
I can see why people from Michigan wax poetic about the UP. Beautiful photos and I love the clear water.
Good shots.
Wowza! Definitely a gorgeous place to visit. Nice job taking the photographs, James.
Beautiful pictures! My dad was from Michigan and I remember going up to Lake Michigan as a child.
It’s a beautiful, peaceful location.
Delightful place for a vacation!
beautiful landscape, beautiful images.
I guess water is to cold to swim in?
Living in Florida, I find all Michigan lakes cold. For Lake Michigan, swimming is generally allowed at designated beaches from Memorial Day to Labor Day, typically from 11 am to 7 pm when lifeguards are on duty. Besides temperature changes, there are rip currents and strong undertows.
So beautiful. A great place to camp and learn about history both. Alana ramblinwitham
What a beautiful place to be.
What a great location for a camping trip and beautiful photos! I am not a big fan of camping but even I would fancy going there!!
What a gorgeous place to stay and camp! Thanks to James for sharing such lovely captures. I love the one with the wall framing the view.
Have a great weekend, Carol.
We love the UP, but I don’t think we’ve ever been to that area. Beautiful!
It looks like a beautiful area for a camping trip. Please thank James and Heather for these great photos, and thanks for sharing them Carol. Have a great weekend!
Such lovely photos, the weather looks amazing. That’s the weather and scenery you want when camping.
Hi Carol. Althogh I am not a camper, the water views are so beautiful. It must be so nice to wake up to the views every morning. I would love to “glamp” I think that’s what it’s called, in this area. Pinned.
I agree glamping looks like great fun!
