How to Create a Healthy Brunch for Mom

Mother’s Day in the USA is Sunday, May 11, 2025. Other countries have other dates for the observance. This post is for everyone who celebrates Mothers and all they do.

Like many people, I like a mix of food for special occasions like a brunch. If you’re not taking your mother out to eat at a Sunday brunch, I have ideas to help you create one at home. Mom deserves a brunch made with ingredients thoughtfully selected just for her. Whether you’re serving traditional breakfast foods or making a charcuterie board with a variety of delicious meats and cheeses, let’s discuss what you need to create the perfect healthy Mother’s Day brunch.

A typical brunch menu should include a balance of breakfast and lunch items. Classic options often feature egg dishes, bread-based items, and savory and sweet options.

Common choices include eggs Benedict, pancakes, waffles, French toast, and various meat options like bacon, sausage, or ham.

Additionally, fruits, pastries, and yogurt parfaits are frequently included. Make a smoothie, fruit parfait or platter with all of mom’s favorites fruits.

If your family like mine includes members with special diets, you must make sure to include enough items in the required diets. If a young child has an allergy to a specific food group like nuts, I would avoid any nuts in the brunch. For adults with the same allergy, you of course, could incude a bowl with nuts that others could add to any dish.

Over the years, I’ve shared quite a few vegetable trays or crudité and an assortment of dips. “Crudité” (pronounced “kroo-dee-tay”) is a French word for an appetizer consisting of raw, sliced or whole vegetables, often served with a dipping sauce. My family always offers several dips to meet family member’s tastes and diets.

Here are some tasty suggestions for a healthy brunch:

  1. Crudité with several dips: for example Herb & Garlic Yogurt Dip, Low Fat Spinach Dip, White Bean Dip, 7 Layer Taco Dip, Hummus
  2. Yogurt and Fruit Parfaits
  3. Chia Pudding
  4. Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal, Oatmeal Breakfast Cookies, Oat Energy Balls
  5. Lemon Blueberry Quinoa
  6. Poached Eggs on Toast
  7. Hard Boiled Eggs, Deviled Eggs
  8. Savory Shakshuka, Eggs Poached in Spicy Tomato Sauce
  9. Toast or Whole Grain Bread, like Apple Yogurt Toast , Avocado Toast
  10. Avocado Breakfast Sandwich
  11. Strawberry & Cheese Bruschetta
  12. Zucchini Bread
  13. Whole Wheat Sweet Potato Muffins
  14. Irish Potato Bread, Farls
  15. Grain-Free Sweet Potato Toast
  16. Asparagus & Tomato Quiche
  17. Fruit Smoothies & Smoothies Bowls, like Antioxidant Berry Delight, Mango Frozen Bliss, Chocolate Almond Smoothie Bowl
  18. Sliced Fruit Platter (whichever of Mom’s favorites that are in season)
  19. A charcuterie board with a variety of Mom’s favorite meats & cheeses

    1. I always tried to include some dairy or salad items in a collective post that vegetarians can eat. Some salads are even vegan depending on the salad dressing. The first half of the items listed include breakfast items including oatmeal, oat bites, breakfast cookies. avocado toast, apple yogurt toast, etc.
