Last of My Forced Amaryllis for 2025

Native to tropical regions, amaryllis thrive outdoors in USDA hardiness zones 8-10 (and potentially 7b with protection) and can be grown indoors in colder climates.

My forced amaryllis by my condo door have been steady bloomers for over a month starting mid-February. They are blooming early as they are forced, and I expect next year to see them bloom later in probably April. Let’s start with the last white amaryllis flower.

Each amaryllis bud has 4 flowers when it opens. They ususally open around the same time, but one can be a day or two later. Below is the last 4 red and white variegated amaryllis from the second bud. You can see the long stalk from the first bud leaning against the pot horizontally. Like northern bulbs, I must not cut off the stalk, but it must slowly die back. This feeds the bulb for next year’s blooms.

In April, I expect to see lots of red amaryllis all around Lakeland. Spring is the natural time for amaryllis to bloom in growing zones 8 to 10 and in zone 7B with protection. I am in zone 7B. The red amaryllis sold at Christmas are forced bulbs. Last year there were lots of bright blooms in yards here in central Florida. I’m looking forward to sharing them with you.

Next week I’ll share azalea blooms in the condo garden.

  1. I love your amaryllis blooms and hope to see more.
You are lots earlier on azaleas than we are.

  2. Wonderful blooms indeed. I love them too. But we couldn’t plant this here in our garden, the snails eat them.
Wish you a very good week. Greetings by Heidrun

I love to make new friends and get to know you.
