The weather has been changing in the last few weeks. We had a warm spell and the temperatures went up to 83 degrees F. Then a cold front came down and the high was 59. Now I know all you in 4 season climates are thinking my cold spell isn’t really cold. If you lived in Florida for several years, your body acclimates to hot weather. When I moved to Miami from Tennessee in my 20’s, I laughed when Floridians were so cold in January. Two years later I found I had joined them. Life is funny some times.

This is the perfect time of year for a visit to Florida. The lows aren’t really that cold, and most days have beautiful sunny skies. That’s why we haven so many “snow birds” (seniors who come to Florida in the winter and return to homes up north in the spring). I’ve met several who live in our condos only for the winter. I’ve been here over a year and just met a gentlemen a few days ago. He couldn’t believe we hadn’t meet, and then he remembered he only lives here in the winter. He will go home May 1.

I do miss a northern spring. Crocus, daffodils, tulips, lilacs, iris – If you visit me often, you know I love flowers. Even though the pollen drives my allergies crazy, the flowers make me happy. The pots by my front door fill my need for live plants without a lot of upkeep on my part. I really couldn’t take care of my garden at the house anymore.

It will be March soon, and I’ll have to drive around looking new flowers. I have my fingers crossed I find something interesting.

…Carol, have a “cool” day!
Wonderful narration.
I do love Florida weather. But we have had a very cold winter this year.
Hello Carol! My sister lives in Arizonia and it is similar there–many “snowbirds” and that they feel cold wehn it is in the 60s. I am the opposite–summer heat and humidity makes me suffer and cold weather ,males me feel invigorated. It’s good we can chose between climates! I like to grow pants indoors by a few sunny windows–many I’ve tended for many years. Have a wonderfuk weekend!
I know someone else who feels bad in the summer and wonderful in winter. Everybody’s different.
It’s so funny how we adapt! Enjoy the beautiful weather.
I hope it will warm up some. I know how our bodies get used to the climates we live in. Thanks for the look around your area.
You are so right about the Floridian body temperature. When we first started snowbirding in Florida, we would come end of November and return in April. Eventually, April was too cold for us in Phila- so we stay warm in Florida until June.. then it’s warm enough to return to Phila.
Our bodies adjust but we don’t notice!
Your low temperatures are practically summer weather here in the UK. lol but I understand that it is so warm in Florida for most of the year it will feel so cold to you! I like the idea of the seniors who go to Florida just for the winter, it sounds like a really sensible way to live.
I hope you get to find some flowers on your drive!
It looks so beautifully green. I hope you find some flowers.
The first year my husband and I lived in Florida (mid 1970’s) we wondered why stores sold winter coats. The second year, I was wear one one. Yes, you do adjust. It’s sneaky. Alana ramblinwitham
I hope you find some pretty flowers on your drive! I love the title for the “snow birds” 🙂
My husband and I were just discussing the other day about we wouldn’t like to live somewhere without the four seasons. The sunshine of Florida does sounds applealing though. I have visited Florida twice both times in early June and it was super hot but absolutely beautiful. I hope you spot some lovely flowers soon.
I feel happier and healther with lots of sunshine. Grey skies make me sad (SAD). I think I wrote about that. You make compromises in life with our choices. 4 seasons is best for you, and mini-seasons in Florida are best for me. That’s why there are so many flavors of ice cream.
Hi friend. You are so right…the body adjusts to the climate. When I first moved down from the north I had all these coats and boots that I just didn’t need. But after being here a couple of years I wished I had kept a couple of those coats because I was cold. 🤣 I can’t wait to see the beautiful florals in future videos.
