More January Gulf Coast Snow Photos

Last week I reported on the snow storm that hit the Gulf Coast. Multiple southern states were shocked when snow fell. Today I’m sharing more photos from southerners who had fun with snow which they rarely ever see. Snow on the Gulf coast photos via Facebook.

I believe this was taken in New Orleans

I was worried that snow might hurt the Florida cypress trees growing in water. I read up on it, and it’s good news. Cypress trees in Florida can tolerate a wide range of temperatures, from around 20°F to 95°F (-6°C to 35°C). This range allows them to grow in a variety of environments.

In Florida, alligators are most active when the temperature is between 82° and 92° F (28° to 33° C). They become dormant when the temperature drops below 55° F (13° C) and are dormant for most of the winter. The fellow above is probably looking for a warm spot.

Someone had fun with the snow. It reminds me of ice fishing up north.

The final photo is a beauty. Fire and ice sunrise the morning after the snow at Pensacola Beach, Florida. What a rare and incredible photo. Photo by Dan Dunn, via Kaitlin Wright Meteorologist

  1. Oh wow; these photos are fantastic. I love that last shot and the ones of the Cyprus trees covered in snow but those sculptures are a riot!

  2. Amazing seeing those sights of snow in sunny south. I’m glad the people had fun with it. Are snowbirds still a thing? I bet they had fun as well.

    1. Oh yes Florida has lots of snowbirds – I doubt they were happy with snow because they came for fun in the sun!

  3. Oh my goodness, these are some gorgeous and rare photos. I mean, snow and palm trees or snow and snow on the beach are truly unusal.
Everyone was really creative with the snowmen. I love those lounging in the lounge chairs and the one standing on his head are really cute. Love these pics. Pinned.

  4. Great pictures. But it just isn’t right for us to have snow. People leave the north to get out of the snow and here it followed them. 🙂

  5. Amazing and beautiful in their own ways. Snow is common where I live on the edge of the New York snowbelt, but I enjoyed every one of these photos. Alana ramblinwitham

Thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful weekend.

  8. Absolutely amazing and a bit mind boggling to see all this snow down there. People are very clever and imaginative with their snowmen, and others, and to see the alligator, wow!

I love to make new friends and get to know you.
