News Flash! HEAVY snow has fallen in Florida, covering beaches in the south as a winter storm wreaks havoc across the United States. Millions of Americans have been urged to stay indoors after a blizzard warning was issued for the first time ever in multiple southern states.

SNOW on the beach, Biloxi Beach, Mississippi! ! The sand isn’t white, that is snow!

January 20th at 9: 32 am we had First Winter Storm Watch in Florida since January 2018 (when it snowed in Tallahassee).

January 20th it was 47° and raining in Tampa. Miserable out there. Weatherman said “If it is going to be this cold and this rainy, then it should be SNOWING“. I didn’t agree.

My cousin in Mobile, Alabama reported that Mobile had 6.3 inches of snow mid day on the 21st and it was still snowing and showing no signs of stopping. Snow broke record set in 1895.

Forecast changed as temperatures dropped. Most of the precipitation from Tallahassee to Jacksonville and Gainesville was predicted to be mixed precipitation with little if any snow accumulation.

January 21st The state had a 55° temperature swing across #Florida. 24° F and snowing in Pensacola. Partly cloudy and 79°F in Miami. We had all four seasons well represented.

8.8” of snow fell in Milton, Florida (western panhandle) on January 21st. It sets a new all time snowfall record for Florida, and broke the old record of 4”, set in 1954, also in Milton.

Rare combination. Snow covered orange tree in Pensacola.

With all the snow on January 20th and 21st it was not advisable to take a drive. Many people in Pensacola, Tallahassee, etc were born in Florida and DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE IN THE SNOW. Eager to see snow, a road trip sounds fun. Just remember, snow removal is limited in the south.

There were numerous accidents in our panhandle. Here’s one in Pensacola.

Citizens thought it was all good. Waffle House in Pensacola was still open and very busy.

My area on Wednesday had a high of 42° and a low of 39°. Wednesday morning’s weather forecast said satellite pic shows clouds over us and a huge swath of snow on the ground from Texas to North Carolina. Another Florida natural disaster dealt with.

While it will be cold here in the next few days, it will not be much colder than it already has been this winter. Lows will be in the 30°s and 40°s with highs in the 50°s around Tampa by the weekend.
I’m staying in this week with a heater on and a nice blanket to cover me when necessary. Remember, that most Florida buiIdings are made of concrete blocks which supposedly never dries. It makes a cold damp feeling in houses. I hope all of you are staying warm this winter.

Brrr! It’s been really cold here in Virginia, but at least we are prepared for it because we get cold weather every winter. The picture of snow on the beach is pretty. Stay warm!
That Pensacola beach photo is fantastic. And I have to admit, I laughed out loud at the snow plow! It’s so tiny compared to the behemoths up here in the north country! You’re right about people not knowing how to drive in snow — even after the first snow up here there is a relearning process but it comes back pretty quickly. So much for the warm Florida the Michigan snowbirds went south to escape! Still impressive — but it does make you wonder (again) about the climate.
I drove in snow and ice up north including January in Michigan. I am not a good ice driver – so much stress! I’m happy to never have to clean frost off my car now.
Wow that is crazy! At least when it snows here we have multiple tools and ways for dealing with it. Thanks for sharing the round up of photos. It is rather wild to see snow on the orange and palm trees.
I’m just hoping they don’t die from the cold.
They are so pretty covered in snow 🙂
The forlorn birdbath covered in snow dust, the snowy poolside with lounging chairs, snow looking like white beach sand, the orange tree as if dipped in icing sugar, the cozy cat … all wonderful shots! Thank you for sharing! Take care on the roads and hope you stay warm.
I love the orange tree covered in snow. I know that cold weather in sunny warm areas sure leads to lots of broken water pipes and I hope people didn’t have too much damage.
I grew up in ice and snow, I’ve all I want for the rest of my life.
Oh my!! I’ve never seen Pensacola look like that! And snow around the palm tree looks so sureal. Glad you are safe!
Wow! Amazing photos of the snow covering Fl and other southern areas ~ thanks, be warm and cozy ~ hugs,
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

Stay safe. Stay warm.
Snow in Florida is just crazy! I do love those photo’s of the beaches what a rare sight to see snow and sand together. We have weather warnings of wind today in the UK. I hope the snow and cold weather don’t stick around too long for you.
Oh wow! I just can’t get my head around seeing snow on the beaches. I have been reading blogs and over the last few days the snow seems so bad in the US. Stay warm.
Oh my goodness, what is happening? Global warming! Must be quite interesting to have snow.
Worth a Thousand Words
It looks beautiful and then you realize it is Florida, what the….. I would snuggle under the bedclothes with Cecilia. Stay safe, cozy and warm my friend 🙂
I am saddened by the change of weather happening fires in California, floods in North Carolina, snow in all southern states seems like. Keep warm. Have a hot chocolate and read a good book or watch movies. Life goes on.
Wow that is crazy. Probably a wild concept for those who don’t believe in climate change.
