Today I’m sharing a few photos I took last month. Let’s start with a photo of a neighbor’s house with a small crepe myrtle in the front yard.
Next is one of my favorite trees. It’s a large beauty on the right where I turn left into the condo drive. There are quite a few big trees with Spanish moss hanging down in Lakeland. I love driving around them. (Hanging off trees and landscape plants, Spanish moss is a familiar part of Florida’s environment. Despite its name, Spanish moss is not a moss but a bromeliad—a perennial herb in the pineapple family. Most bromeliads, including Spanish moss, are epiphytes.)
You may remember a post earlier in the summer when I mentioned wildlife. I have seen Mr. Rabbit often and even have a photo of him. He lives in the bushes around the buildings. He started in front my building, and a month ago moved the building next to us. Below is a photo of him in the bushes below my 2nd floor balcony. I think he heard me because then he moved next door.
He moves to the grass right before dark and in the early morning hours to sit and munch.
It’s ridiculous how happy it makes me to see him. I’m wondering if he was born around these buildings and has always been here. It’s pretty safe I think. Most of the dogs my neighbors own are small and always on leash outside. I don’t think there are that many predators around. I do worry since I saw that snake back in June. I’ve got my fingers crossed for Mr. Rabbit. Thanks for the visit!

…I hope that you had an Awesome August.
I was quite taken with the Spanish Moss hanging down from the trees. It’s been a few years since we were in Florida, but it’s something I have never forgotten. Lovely to see the rabbit. It is such a rare event for me to spot one nowadays, I think I would fall out of my shoes if one popped up. Lovely little things! Thanks Carol, Happy September!
I enjoy seeing my little friend although he is terrified if I act like I see him. I’ll try to do a post on Spanish moss in the next month. The houses in this neighborhood have gorgous old trees covered in them. Happy Sept!
You live in a lovely neighborhood, Carol. (And I love the bunny!!!)
Oh, me too. Mr Rabbit brings me joy.
That’s a lovely neighbourhood, Carol. Happy Fall!
Your neighbourhood is beautiful!
How lovely to have a resident rabbit but the thought of having snakes nearby scare me. I hope Mr. Rabbit stays safe.
I love to see rabbits in the wild. I recently watched one eat grass and didn’t seem bothered that I had my phone out recording the whole time.
Worth a Thousand Words
I have been inspired by your photos of crepe myrtles. We have a ton of fine big specimens in Tulsa.
I love your rabbit. Rabbits don’t last too long in our neighborhood.
I’m hoping mine lasts a long time. He’s cute and oh so afraid of everything.
Loved the 2nd photo the best!
Great shots.
Hi Mr. Rabbit! I love seeing Spanish moss.
Hopefully your rabbit will escape the local predators and continue to entertain you. It’s so interesting to just sit and watch nature, isn’t it? I was wondering if this is the same type of rabbit that we see where I live in New York State – it seems rounder. Maybe it’s just more contented. Alana ramblinwitham
I think he’s lived his little life around the 6 condos. Probably more like 2 or 3 of them or he would have to cross roads. He’s so timid, I don’t thnk he’d do that. Our land backs up to the lake with a fence on the sides between neighbors and the condos. There’s winding roads thru parking lots to get out of our property. That’s it. I think he just lives in the landscaped bushes. The other morning I was listening to the lawn guys mow. They do it regularly. I wondered where r u hiding Mr Rabbit?
Beautiful post! Love your encounters with Mr. Rabbit.
Hi Carol,
Nice to know you’re enjoying your new neighborhood. We are blessed with birds and rabbits in our backyard, and like you, we enjoy watching them.
Have a good weekend!
