Crepe Myrtle in the Parking Lot

I don’t miss my crepe myrtle trees at my old home as the condo has small crepe myrtle planted around the parking lot. Days are so bright here in Florida that I have trouble capturing the colors. I know I should come out early in the morning or right before sundown to really get more colors, but I forget. I hope you’ll enjoy the sunny days pictured here. This month has been the hottest July in recorded history here in central Florida according to the weatherman on the 6 PM news today. I believe it.

Besides the small trees where I park, the neighbor behind the fence has a large crepe myrtle with white flowers. My neighborhood has many crepes in bloom.

I’m enjoying the flowers without any maintenance on my part. It’s a good deal. My building has nice landscaping with palm trees and bushes. Isn’t the sky nice?

Closer to the building is a row of green bushes. When I bring the garbage out in the late afternoon or evenings, I have seen wildlife around the bushes. Do I have a camera or phone? Nope I’m loaded with a large garbage bag and a bag of recyclables. Once I saw a mated pair of cardinals; my that fellow was beautiful. One evening I saw a snake slithering behind the bushes. I wouldn’t have stopped to take its picture – I don’t like snakes! Another evening I saw a brown rabbit. It was a really cute bunny with variegated tones in its fur. He was terrified of me. I had to go have fasting blood work this morning, and I was in a hurry. Sure enough Mr. Rabbit was out since it was early morning. I’m going to try some morning to go down with the camera before 8 am. Murphy’s Law I probably won’t see anything. Oh well.

I hope you’re having bright, sunny days.

  1. It’s a gorgeous tree. And I so know what you mean about not having a camera or even a phone with you when you see just the right photo. They become memories of the heart.

  2. Enjoying flowers and blooms you don’t have to take care of is the best way to enjoy them, I think. I feel like I always see so much more wildlife when I don’t have a camera handy… or if I do have my camera they move out of sight the moment I bring it up to take a photo!

  3. I have native plants, but crepe myrtles in bloom are a sight to behold. Fun to sneak around on a rabbit photo shoot. Hope you find one to take photos of.

  4. Sign me up for somebody else doing yard work. My wife loves it, and I hate it.
I’ve come to love crepe myrtles. They do very well in Tulsa until there is a hard freeze in the winter, then they don’t do so well. Yours are beautiful!!

  5. Pretty photos – I love crepe myrtles!! We have one in our yard and for some reason this year, it has decided not to bloom. I have no idea what happened and/or what we did? Nothing I can think of! Thankfully, there are plenty throughout the neighborhood and, like you, I am enjoying all the crepey blooms!! Now they are starting to drop all over the sidewalks…..

    1. What growing zone are you in? Crepe myrtles grow in zones 7 – 10. Do your neighbors have crepe myrtle trees? If they do, ask them how they maintain them. Good luck!

  6. I often envy warmer states for you can grow so many things we can’t in the north. But then I think there is a lot we can grow in the north that you can’t in the south, so it all evens out in the end. Beautiful tree!

  7. Yes, I fear snakes. Thank God we don’t see them in Vancouver. Crape Myrtles are beautiful trees.

  8. We have a couple of crepe myrtles in our garden. I always enjoy the sight of them. Thank you for taking us around your area. It all looks lovely! Happy Sunday to you Carol!

  9. The crepe myrtles are blooming here too and they make the streets look so pretty. I am happy to hear that you are surrounded by them as well. Hope you get to see the little bunny again! Have a great week.
