In the past, I worked for several years in a sales job. It required the set up of a home office, organizing information, and the development of a schedule for me to complete all necessary activities. Now I am a blogger and like many people working from home is a daily way of life. However, while working from home has many perks, it is not without its difficulties. Working at home can be a difficult adjustment that could impact work productivity as well as health and wellness. While you have the best intentions to stay fit and healthy, make your physical, mental, and emotional health a priority with healthy home work habits.

At home temptations include working in an ergonomically unsound position, the lack of social stimulation, and a large number of tempting snacks in the kitchen. So, just how do you stay healthy while working from the comfort of your own home? Read on for some top tips.
Set a Suitable Space
Despite the attraction of your comfortable bed or sofa, designate a work space in your home. Working at the kitchen table, on the couch or even in bed can only be done for so long before it severely impacts your physical and mental health. A corner of the room can accommodate a reasonably sized desk. If you have a spare room, make this a home office. Some people like the space under the stairs too. If not, you need to create a space where you are away from the TV, kids, pets, and any other distractions. This is the only way to remain productive. Make sure you have all of the technology you need too.

Invest in What You Need
Invest in a comfortable, ergonomically sound chair that will keep you properly aligned throughout the day. The last thing you want is to strain your neck or back while hunched over the computer screen. Good posture is vital, which is why you need to choose a chair carefully. Go for something that is comfortable, without being overly comfortable – a reclining chair is more likely to make you fall asleep than get your work done. Or ditch the chair and have a stand up desk for your laptop. Something as simple as a quality office chair can make a massive difference to work performance. And if you are self-employed, you will need to invest.

Body and Mind Health
The feeling of the office you require begins with you. You can have all the fancy furniture in the world, but it doesn’t mean much if your head isn’t in the game. Getting work done, whether at home or on-site, requires the right attitude. Stress, fatigue, and anxiety can get in the way. To keep your stress levels controlled, you need to work in an area that is soothing. Get rid of any clutter and create an optimal working environment. For example, it may be important for you to have a desk by a window so that you can look outside, or you may want to place some scented candles or green plants in the room to help you focus. It is more tempting to eat bad food when working from home. This is why you should make sure your fridge and cupboards are stocked with healthy options. Set aside some water and some snacks for each day. You might find help when you shop natural supplements for focus and energy. Natural and synthetic nootropics are known to help boost the body and brain for enhanced focus and energy.

Create a Work Plan
Remote work has its perks. You don’t need to commute, so you get longer in bed. You also don’t have a boss breathing down your neck. And if you want to work in your PJs, you can. Although this isn’t recommended. Get showered and dressed as if you are going to the office. A number of experts believe that what you are wearing has an influence on the characteristics that you adopt. Not only will wearing office wear boost productivity levels, but also self-efficacy is proven to have a positive influence on health behaviors, including exercise and weight control. However, despite the perks, you are still contracted and expected to get through a set amount of work. Unlike being on-site, you must manage your time at the home office more efficiently. That means creating a plan and sticking to it like your life depends on it.

Enjoy Remote Work in Comfort
There was a huge increase in remote workers following COVID. Many people still work from home at least a few times per week. Others work from home full-time. However, there are still some challenges with remote work. And 80% of remote workers in the UK experience mental health problems. To combat issues like fatigue, isolation and anxiety, it helps to make your workspace as comfortable as you can. This includes the decor, lighting and even music. Also, you should make an effort to get up and move around at least once per hour. As soon as the clock hits a new hour, get up and do some stretches or a few jumping jacks. This is beneficial because your metabolism can decrease when sitting for long periods, which can have a detrimental impact on your health and even increase your risk of cancer.

Summary
Looking after your body and mind’s health is critical if you are to enjoy remote work from home. Making a comfy and safe space is also a massive benefit. However, you might need to make some investments in quality furniture and supplies, especially when you are self-employed. I hope these tips are useful as you experience working from home. I know it can take awhile to set up a new routine and adapt to the changes. Who knows, maybe you’ll find that you’re even more productive at home than at the office.

My husband worked at home during the Covid time, and he totally LOVED it and didn’t want to go to office any more LOL….
Great ideas here, I have a small area in my family room that I love to work on my blogging. I am often distracted by the birds outside though 🙂 My son works from home and when the weather is good he will go sit on his balcony. Husband can work with all kinds of distractions around him. A bird lands and I’m gone 🙂
Your love of birds is one of the things I like about you
…I have an office but it’s far from being an oasis!
Another useful post, Carol, especially with so many working remotely these days.
Great tips. I work from home as you know and having a an office space is a must. Although, my desk is often used as a dumping ground for the boys to store their random toys and snacks on! 🙂
