I Love Blue Skies

Florida is known as the sunshine state. Blue skies with varying amounts of clouds is our norm. We have a dry season which is late fall and winter. Our wet season starts in May ususally and lasts all summer. Based on 51 years of data from 48 weather stations here, the average weather station in the state has 252 days during the year in which there is no rain, or 69 percent of the year. Some Florida cities here have even more sunshine than the average. St. Petersburg, Florida is known as the sunshine city. It has an average of 361 days of sunshine annually.

When I came for a vacation back in my 20’s, I came in January from middle Tennessee. Tennessee has lots of cloudy gray days in winter. As I’ve mentioned before, I have Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). (See my post on SAD for more information.) This means I physically feel the difference when I don’t have sunshine. A day or two isn’t bad, but months of gray makes me feel tired and even sad. Florida’s sunshine keeps me happy with more energy. I love blue skies and sunny days.

I wish you all blue skies and sunny days filled with happiness.

I was raised in Tennessee but have lived in Florida for many years. Love my small home in the Tampa Bay area and its developing garden. My decorating style is eclectic - some vintage, some cottage, all with a modern flair. Pursuing a healthier lifestyle. Spent many years in social services but am happily retired.

  1. I’ve always felt (I lived in Florida for two years) that Florida had the best skies and sunsets. Those dreary New York winter cloudy days can really get to you. Alana ramblinwitham

  3. I love living in Florida. We visited our children and family for the holidays and a day without sun and 50 degrees felt horrible. We did not want to leave the house. Just got back and all is beautiful.

  4. Beautiful skies. A blue sky always lifts my mood. With that said, we haven’t had many of those over here lately!

  5. Beautiful skies Carol! My sister had this SAD. She lived in Norway when it was always dark during the wintertime. I remember she had a lamp that simulated sunshine. I don’t know if there is such a thing here but she used to swear by hers. Wishing you lots and lots of sunshine my friend 🙂

    1. Full spectrum light bulbs do help when living with lots of grey days. Fortunately, I don’t need them in Florida. You’re so sweet to think of it though. Thanks you my friend.

  6. I feel like it has rained every day here since the start of the year but hopefully, if the weather forecast is right it should be nice this week with some blue skies.
What amazing weather you have! Fab photos.

  7. Oh I just LOVE all these blue sky photos. I immediately feel better when we have sunny days with bright blue skies. I don’t think I could ever survive in places like Seattle where it rains a lot.

  8. I SO love blue skies, too! Love the photos. (I have SAD, too, and it’s amazing how you can physically feel that you need sunshine!) Thanks for sharing this post at the Will Blog for Comments #36 linkup!

  9. Carol, I have SAD too. I’m in Western Pennsylvania and it’s horrible for me from fall time change until spring time change. I love blue skies and sunshine too.
