May in the Dining Room

I’ve not spent much time on decorating during my recovery from surgery. Mostly I’ve updated the dining area. Since I’ve spent a lot of time at home in the last month, I definitely wanted a change of scene there. First I rotated art in my home and put my floral anchor print on the picture ledge. (You can find it at Adding Coastal With Floral Anchor Printables.) I use coastal accents a lot in my Florida home. Then I added two colorful glass bottles with flowers. It really brightens the room.

Before surgery I had been told that I wouldn’t be able to reach over my head for sometime after the operation. I therefore took many things out of the pantry and kitchen that were on high shelves and placed them on my dining table. I used up many of these items and finally found other places to store them. It was a good idea for medical reasons, but psychologically I wasn’t happy with all the clutter. Now I have a simple vignette on the table with flowers, a bunny, and a candle. I’m happier at this stage of recovery having something pretty to see.

We’re halfway through May and usually I would be planning ahead for summer. I use red, white, and blue most years starting with Memorial Day through June and most of July. I’m not sure what I will use as inspiration for summer decorating this year, but I need to get out of the house. I think I’ll go visit Ross for Less and Beall’s this week. They usually have things that prompt ideas in my head. I am feeling much better and see an increase in energy and less pain everyday. I think the worse is over. I just need to increase my activity slowly. I want to thank everyone for the good thoughts and prayers. It has really made a difference for me. Have a great week!

I was raised in Tennessee but have lived in Florida for many years. Love my small home in the Tampa Bay area and its developing garden. My decorating style is eclectic - some vintage, some cottage, all with a modern flair. Pursuing a healthier lifestyle. Spent many years in social services but am happily retired.

  1. It sounds like a good idea to have a change with you spending so much time at home. I am glad you are starting to feel much better, you really do have a lovely home.

  2. I’m glad you are recovering well. I can just imagine how frustrating it must have been having things to hand rather than your gorgeous decorations. I really love the way you can make any part of a room look pretty.

  3. Those blue bottles are just love and set off the colors in the anchor photo so well. My grandmother was a HUGE Beall’s fan and used to complain that we had nothing comparable up here in New England. Each winter she’d send me usually a couple of large care packages of things she found for us down there and 95% of the items all had Beall’s tags!

  4. I hope that you are getting better Carol. Today Mary Lou & I are going to Ana’s Flowers in Kingsville. Her flowers are always the greatest and beautiful & probably the most expensive but they are the best. Well, I have to go, my wife calling for me. See ya.

  5. I’m so glad to hear your pain level is improving. I’ll bet you are counting down to your June appointment (and lunch or dinner after with your friend!). I remember that deal about not reaching and bringing things down to an easier level and how good it feels when you get that under control. Well, you may not have been decorating full force, but I love what you have shared — especially that lovely white bunny! Keep it up — you’re almost there!
