Florida Days

Today I’m sharing photos taken on 3 separate days here in central Florida. The first is the foggy gray morning that can happen in winter. Warm moist winds off the Gulf blow in on cooler moist ground and fog appears. I no longer worry about driving in it since I’m retired. I’ve always enjoyed watching fog and think of Carl Sandberg’s poem. It’s one of my favorites.

The Fog

BY CARL SANDBURG

The fog comes

on little cat feet.

It sits looking

over harbor and city

on silent haunches

and then moves on.

On another day the bright afternoon sun shining through a beautiful tree made me happy. Blue skies are the norm most of the time.

Finally I couldn’t pass up a wonderful sundown by Tampa Bay one evening. It just makes me glad to be alive.

Thanks for the visit. I’m wishing you the kind of skies that make you happy.

I was raised in Tennessee but have lived in Florida for many years. Love my small home in the Tampa Bay area and its developing garden. My decorating style is eclectic - some vintage, some cottage, all with a modern flair. Pursuing a healthier lifestyle. Spent many years in social services but am happily retired.

    1. thanks Angie – I love misty, foggy mornings when I’m not driving. It’s not great to drive in. Fog to me is sort of other worldly mysterious.

  1. That Carl Sandburg had a way with words. The fog coming in on cat feet. Beautiful photos. I grew up in the mountain west and rarely saw fog. When I moved to the gulf coast I thought it was cool.

  2. I traveled by train to Carl Sandburg’s house in Galesburg, IL with my father and my youngest son. You surprised me with the Fog poem. I always admired his Chicago poem. Fog poem is really excellent too. It is good to be alive.

  3. Blue skies make me so happy. Even when I’m walking home and feeling so tired after work and my ears are still ringing form all the noisy kids. If I see a bright blue sky it instantly makes me feel better.

  4. I’ve got those happy skies too!! Not having to drive on bad weather days was one of the absolute joys of being retired (there were lots more foggy days in Oregon than there ever are here). Now I’ve been retired for so long that I don’t usually give it a second thought, but it was great to be reminded! . Like mine over here in FM, your happy skies are just wonderful and I wish you many many more of the same!!

  5. Every day is lovely in its own special way! Thanks for the reminder. (I never have had to go anywhere on foggy Florida mornings, but I know exactly what you mean by appreciating them more because you don’t. Eugene Oregon gets coastal foggy days quite often (in the fall and winter of course) and I had to drive to work through it way too often. That was definitely something I didn’t miss!)

    1. I’m sure lots of coastal communities get fog. I do enjoy watching it – it’s mysterious!
