January Morning Skies

For the last month as snow storms hit other areas of the country, Florida has gotten multiple cold fronts coming in from the north. You wake up to gray skies, thin gray clouds, and little sun. It looks like snow clouds to me but we’re too far south. Often the cold fronts bring us cold to the bone rain. (I know it’s not cold to northerners but it’s cold to Floridians.) So I am always happy when the gray is blown away and blue skies return with thin wispy white clouds.

The photos today are from just such a morning. The rain has stopped and the sun is out.

Just for fun I’m sharing a funny meme I saw. When we decorate at Christmas with snowman or faux snow, most of us don’t really want snow. It’s just the idea of snowman or Santa Claus we like. Of course a few people in this state fly to ski areas in the winter and ski. Most of us just complain when it’s cold. We didn’t move here for cold weather.

I’m wishing everyone blue skies.

  1. Living in Hawaii. I know exactly what you mean about relative cold. We call it having pineapple blood. It feels chillery and delightful to us, but to our visitors it is perfect summer. Summer. The winter months…

    1. Oh my that is exactly what happens in Florida. Snow Birds flock to the beaches in winter and we think it’s too cold. With climate change summer is really a steamy scorcher. My favorite time is winter to spring. Even if it’s chilly in the morning, most afternoons are sunny and pleasant.

    1. I agree – I love beautiful snowy scenes to look at but not for me to live in – I think we both like the sun

  2. We’ve had colder than normal te,ps for a few days as well. I wish it would be lomger to kill off the ants and mosquitos. But it was nice while it lasted. I am praying for a little snow here. Your blue skies are really pretty. Thank you for sharing at #aclwcc.

  3. It is so nice to see your photos of blue skies. It’s been mostly grey here for what seems like months. We had a flurry of snow last week but it didn’t settle. I love looking at pictures of it but I am not a fan of it in real life.

  4. I love a bright blue sky and it always makes me feel instantly happier when I see one. That meme is funny. I don’t like winter but snow during Christmas time must be so beautiful. Although I have been reading blogs from people who live in cold snowy places. And they all seem to really dislike the snow because it’s so much work shoveling etc

    1. Snow and ice are a lot of work to remove. I hate driving in it too. I’m so happy that it doesn’t happen in Florida. Have a wonderful weekend.

  5. Hah, I love your actual winter photos from Florida. I grew up in the ice and snow and don’t miss it a bit. I visited my parents in Idaho one year and it was 25F below zero at 2PM and got to 33 below that night.
    Don’t need that!!

    1. My family talked me into moving up to Michigan back 30 years ago. I moved from Miami and in October I wanted to go into a fetal position – the sun disappeared 28 out of 31 days. In January it went 10 below and I said I’m not an eskimo and moved back to Florida the next year.

  6. It must be quite a shock to the system for your Floridians to feel cold. I hope your weather improves Carol. In fact it is probably back to normal by now. Here it is windy, cold and eight degrees!

  7. I enjoyed your skies and the blue in them. I totally identify with that “Where I like to view snow” meme, living in an area that averages 80 inches of snow a year. We didn’t visit Florida this January (although invited to by my cousin in Orlando) I’m not sorry – I know a lot of the South has been getting a lot of rain – but we should be below zero by Saturday morning. And with cold weather, we get blue skies. Go figure. Alana ramblinwitham
