Choose Clothing For Happiness

The clothes you wear can have a big impact on your mood and confidence. According to Prof. Carolyn Mair PhD, a behavioral psychologist and author of The Psychology of Fashion, “When we feel good in what we are wearing, we tend to be more confident.” When you feel good in what you’re wearing, it shows. But when you’re uncomfortable or self-conscious in your clothing, it can hold you back. That’s why it’s so important to choose the right outfit for any given occasion. When you find clothing that makes you feel comfortable and supported, it’ll show in your demeanor and attitude.

How clothes you wear affect your mood & confidence

Your clothes have a huge impact on your mood and confidence. The right outfit can make you feel powerful and put-together, while the wrong one can leave you feeling self-conscious and unsure of yourself. It’s important to take the time to choose an outfit that makes you feel good because it will affect every aspect of your day. And it’s not just about the outward appearance; the comfort of your clothing and even your underwear will impact how you carry yourself and how you feel. With that in mind, you can shop for panties here.

There are a few things to consider when choosing an outfit for an important event. First, think about the message you want to send. Are you trying to look professional? Approachable? Confident? Make sure your clothing choices reflect the image you want to project. Next, consider the occasion. Is it a formal event or a casual gathering? Your clothing should be appropriate for the setting and your personal style. At work, think ahead to where you want to be in 5 years. Do you have a leader in your life to emulate? Observe how your boss dresses. Choose clothes that make you feel comfortable and stylish, but also reflect where you want to be in the future.

How to choose clothing that makes you feel comfortable

Do you wear clothing that reflects your mood or do you wear clothing to change your mood? Researchers from the University of Queensland interviewed people and observed their clothing choices. The answer? More often than not, we dress how we’d like to feel. I remember from my work life examples of that. I choose an outfit to help me feel happier and more energetic on a morning when I was tired. On a busy day of meetings my most professional looking clothes helped me feel confident and in control.

Our clothes can make us feel happier and can ease anxiety which is why the term ‘dopamine dressing’ is making its way into the style industry. Two details to consider are the type of fabric you choose for your clothing and the color. The type of fabric can have a big impact on how comfortable and supported you feel. Natural fibers like cotton and linen are usually more breathable and comfortable than synthetic fibers like polyester, so they can be better during summer. If you tend to sweat a lot or have sensitive skin, you might want to avoid fabrics that are likely to trap moisture or irritate your skin.

Color psychology is both fascinating and incredibly controversial. Back in the 1980’s and 1990’s, finding your color season was the latest thing. Your skin tone, hair color, and eye color will fall into one of four main seasonal categories: winter, spring, summer, and autumn. After being analyzed, it was determined I was a summer loving pastels. This is very true as I look good in cool colors. As my hair is getting lighter with more white, how I look in colors is changing.

“Most of today’s conversations on colors and persuasion consist of hunches [and] anecdotal evidence,” writer Gregory Ciotti explains in Psychology Today. Each person’s feelings about color will ultimately be modified by their experiences. Just as you have your personal fashion style, you may have definite color preferences that give you happiness, confidence, and comfort. Your sister’s favorite clothes may be radically different than yours. My sister has a yellow skin tone and she looks great in warm colors. Good Trade has an informative article on color psychology and finding your perfect color palette. You then know your spectrum of colors to choose from and find your perfect shade. It’s really fascinating.

So now you understand the importance of finding clothing that is comfortable and makes you happy. Choose happy clothes for a happier life.

I was raised in Tennessee but have lived in Florida for many years. Love my small home in the Tampa Bay area and its developing garden. My decorating style is eclectic - some vintage, some cottage, all with a modern flair. Pursuing a healthier lifestyle. Spent many years in social services but am happily retired.
