Getting Organized For Christmas

We are now within weeks of Thanksgiving here in the USA. If you are hosting this year, I’m sure you have lists – lots of lists. You’re probably already planning for Christmas too. If you work outside the home, managing a home during the holidays and dealing with modern-day working life are hard to balance. The tool of choice is a Christmas planner: a one-stop location for lists, calendars and menus.

Getting organized for Christmas is about more than just getting some extra boxes to organize gifts and decor.  It’s also about organizing your time and finances – in other words, planning ahead. Today let’s look at some of the free printables online that will make life easier.

I have rounded up some great printables to help you stay organized all of December. Many of these are offered as both 8.5×11 sheets as well as the smaller A5 paper size for small binders. Print the set that most suits you or mix and match to be sure you get everything you need.

Gift List

A gift list helps you make a budget and stick to it. It will also prevent forgetting neighbors and helpers you like to remember. Country Christmas Gift List Printables are sized 8.5″ x 11″ and a great way to plan your purchases.

Advent

Advent begins on Sunday, November 27th and ends on Saturday, December, 24th. Many people around the world celebrate this time in preparation for Christmas. Celebrations can use an Advent calendar, an Advent wreath, and family prayers.   For more information see   Simple Ways to Celebrate Advent: Wreaths, Calendars, & Activities . Advent Acts of Kindness printable and Advent activities including scripture for each Sunday of Advent are also available.

Create A Holiday Planner

Christmas can be a hectic time of year with parties, events, gatherings, gifts, food, and so much more. Save yourself a HUGE headache by getting organized once and for all. An Organized Season has great tips in her post, How to Get Organized for Holiday Entertaining. You will find it’s much easier when you have a plan. Yellow Bliss Road has a 20 page free printable Christmas Planner. It includes a November and a December calendar for 2022, to-do lists, and a weekly agenda.

The Cottage Market has a great Christmas planner sized 8″ x 10″. Check it out.

Plan Your Home’s Cleaning & Decoration

Before you can decorate, you must first clean and remove any clutter. Many households can end up collecting clutter around the home over such a short space of time. I have been working on eliminating unwanted decorations from my autumn and now Christmas decorations. Knowing Christmas is coming usually helps me to get motivated to clean. Before Christmas is the perfect time to review my boxed Christmas decor, throw away broken items, give away unwanted items, and make sure I have containers to protect what I keep. Then I can move furniture, change art work, create Christmas vignettes, and get my home to be the cozy Christmas space I want. My mother used to hire help for big seasonal changes. A professional cleaning company may be the answer if your home needs a good clean out before company comes. I have a lady who comes every month or two to clean all the floors. She’s already scheduled for Friday November 18th to help with the floors and decorations. For a great set of free printables to cover all aspects of cleaning your home, see A Pretty Life in the Suburbs.

Christmas Meal Planning

Food is a major part of our holiday celebration. Need to make lists? Check out the Christmas Meal Planner from Carrie Elle. It covers areas needed for a holiday party, Christmas dinner, and every other special event.

In conclusion, now is the time to plan your family’s holiday meals, decorations, and bucket list. Enjoy the season!

  1. This is a great guide and I used to spend so much time planning for Christmas. Now, I tend to just go with the flow. So long as we have the food ordered and a few presents under the tree then I’m ok.

  2. I have a lot of lists already for Christmas. Food, drinks, presents and plans.
    What lovely printable’s.
I have slowly been decluttering and cleaning ready to put the decorations up at the end of November.

  3. When I was teaching, in preparation for Christmas I had my class create an Advent wreath, During Art class they made this wonderful wreath. Our room was beautiful with 30 Advent wreaths. Before they went home for Christmas, they took their Advent wreath home. They also created a Christmas Planner for December which they would put, a penny, nickel, dime or quarter each day and after Christmas they would take the planner to church and place it in the front where the nativity scene was. My classes were always creating things for Christmas. I miss those days.

  4. Carol – I am a huge list-maker, so this post is right up my alley. I made a note to come back to your post and take another look when I have a little more time – right now I am trying to catch up on visiting blogs after our trip to the UK. Thanks for this extremely helpful post!

  5. Carol, you’re so right, there’s so many things to organize … and I’ve found old fashioned pen and paper (or a white board) to be lifelines. Love all these printables!

  6. This is a great list for plan Christmas. If well organized, then it is easy to plan for a Christmas that brings joy and happiness.

  7. This is a great post, Carol. Cleaning is my worst part. There are things I just can’t do anymore! So I think this year I’m going to hire somenoe in before TG to do all the floors and a few of the more difficult things for me. I have a guest coming the week after and don’t start decorating till after TG so it would time out well. I’m scaling back on some Christmas gift exchanges this year but will try to do some extra baking instead. I plan to be downsizing within a few years and will get started with the Christmas purging as I put up (and take down) this year.

  8. This is such a fabulous round up of some really cute and useful organizational tools. I always try to get a jump start on planning for both holidays because I that way if I do forget something I still have time to get it done! LOL. Though I definitely find holidays so much easier now that we don’t have any little kids in the family anymore– no more sneaking around takes a lot of pressure off my planning modes.

  9. I love planners and printables! Christmas planning is a huge favourite and these organisation ideas are fantastic. I’m not hosting this year but my family have asked me to plan party games for the night. So I’ll have to get cracking on this soon. Thanks for sharing xx
