6 Reasons to Replace Your Windows

Windows are often referred to as the eyes of the home. They look out into the outside world and often allow others to look in. The windows can also be a big contributor to the energy efficiency of the home, especially as they get older. When was the last time you assessed the condition of your windows and doors? With winter right around the corner, it’s time to make sure your home is properly insulated.

If you completed your fall home maintenance checklist, you have evaluated your windows and are doing upkeep to keep your home warm this winter. If you are considering replacing your windows, let’s discuss the benefits of investing in new windows and throwing out the old ones.

  1. Increases the home’s energy efficiency.

With new windows, the extra layers that are now found in most windows can help to increase the home’s energy efficiency. If there are currently any single-paned windows on the property, I recommend replacing these. While they may look stylish and rustic, they’re likely leaking a lot of warmth out of the property.

Instead, look at increasing the home’s energy efficiency by investing in windows that offer double or even triple glazing where possible. The thicker these windows are, the more efficient they’re going to be when it comes to keeping the heat in and the cold out.

  1. Looks aesthetically pleasing from the outside.

With new windows, the difference it makes to the home goes beyond just being good for the energy bills. As windows age, they can become cracked around the fittings and they can warp out of shape. If windows are damaged or show moisture, it’s time to replace them.

By installing new windows and getting rid of the old ones, it can really help give the home a facelift. The difference that it makes by simply changing out the windows is exceptional. Depending on the style of window or color of the windows, it can create a very aesthetically-pleasing finish to the property from the outside. On the inside, it can also give the interior space a bit of a lift too.

  1. Sliding windows are easier to open and close.

Sliding windows have become extremely popular in recent years due to their ease of use. Like the ones from Renewal by Andersen, sliding windows can make it a breeze when it comes to opening and shutting windows.

With older windows, opening them can be a nerve-racking experience, especially as there’s always that worry that the handle is going to fly off or the window itself, falls off the hinges. Where the space may be limited, sliding windows might be more accessible. This can particularly be the case where there’s something in front of the window that limits the available reach. Sliding windows are easier to use and so are worth considering if shopping for new windows.

  1. New windows reduce noise

As we discussed, the best windows provide natural lighting, increase air flow, and make your house look great from the inside out. New windows can also help with noise reduction—especially important if you live on a busy street. While new windows might not be able to silence the outside noise completely, it can most likely quiet it down a good bit. And with that newfound silence comes the ability to relax easier at home, and even sleep better, which can do wonders for your overall health.

  1. Increases the value of the property.

The value of a property, of course, can change over time. The home and its components age. Inflation or recession can greatly affect the house’s value. The good news is that new windows have a relatively high return rate. For instance, a luxury vinyl window replacement has a 68.6% return on investment. That means that if a person spends $10,000 replacing their windows, the value of their home will increase by approximately $6,860.

  1. Replacing windows can provide UV protection

Everyone knows that ultraviolet (UV) rays can be quite damaging to the skin.  It can also fade the fabrics in your rooms.  What most people fail to realize, however, is that most windows do very little to protect you from these harmful UV rays when you’re inside your own home. Take a close look at your belongings around your window and where you see sunlight shining in your home, such as your carpet and rugs, artwork, and furniture. Do you have fading?

Modern windows can come with a UV coating to protect your family and your home. When you explore the different types of windows, consider adding a UV coating for the best protection. Then you can relax and know you’ve providing a safe and secure environment for your family.

Consider the cost and benefits of replacing old windows

It’s important to compare the cost with the benefits in any major home improvement. Windows are an expensive investment, but for the most part, the benefits far outweigh the expense. Think carefully about what windows need replacing and shop for good deals on windows that meet your family’s needs.
