How to Bring Life to Your Home Decorations

If you have visited me before, you know I love fresh flowers. They just add so much to a room. Unfortunately, buying flowers every week isn’t in my budget. The question is how to wake up my rooms? 2022 is all about creating safe spaces that are loaded with brightness and positive energy. I’ve rounded up cheerful decorating ideas that don’t need to be refreshed on a weekly basis. Think: unexpected bursts of color, whimsical motifs and vintage finds that double as art and bring the outdoors in. If you’re looking for new ways to bring life into your space this season, keep reading to get inspired!.

Special Effects

A. Bring in branches

Bring in branches in the spring and fall to add the season to your home décor. We are constantly trying to include nature into our homes by growing plants inside the house, but how about something that’s both simple and of great impact? The key is branches. You can use them for a multitude of amazing DIY projects. Home Edit has a post with 30 DIY projects using branches in your home.

B. Add strip lighting

Add strip lighting or rope lighting to unusual spots in your home to create ambience and grab attention. The team at OB Architecture added LED lighting in a hidden channel up the stairs of this home in England. I just love this look, and it also increases safety in the evening. Where would you add a strip light in your home?

Oversized Art

Bold and beautiful, oversized paintings, posters, and prints are all about making a statement. Over 40 inches in either height or width, oversized art is great for filling in any large available wall space in your home. If you don’t have much experience using such large pieces of décor, don’t worry. Oversized wall art couldn’t be easier to decorate with once you get the basics down. When you have a large piece of art, you don’t need to put much else in your space. Keep the rest of the room simple and sparse, and let the art speak volumes.  Focus on bringing out its main colors in the surrounding décor.

DIY Mural

A feature wall with a mural demands attention. This is really striking if you paint the wall black and then add white graphics. With the same mood-boosting effect of an intricate mural minus the work, this charming DIY is easy enough to complete with kids. Download the template at House & Home, print, and add to the painted wall for an amazing feature. The white graphics really pops on the black wall.

Update Your Home’s Exterior

After properties exceed a certain age, they can begin to look a little tired and old. The word “rustic” is often a polite way of saying “bad.” Is your home’s paint job in need of an update? Maybe your front door needs a new color to pop. Home Depot‘s post, Painting the Exterior of our House With the ProjectColor App, gives the story of how one home owner used Home Depot’s app to choose new colors for the exterior walls and front door.

Perhaps you would like low maintenance siding? Fortunately, adding new siding is a simple process, according to www.beisselwindows.com, and it covers up all manner of evils. In fact, it doesn’t matter how bad your facades look underneath, with siding they will never see the light of day again.

Add A Wave Pool

Depending on where you live, many of your neighbors might already have pools. But you can bet your bottom dollar that they won’t have wave pools. Most of us do not have a huge yard and budget for a fantasy wave pool like at water parks. Wave pools are a lot of fun, but the way they work is surprisingly simple, according to https://www.surfertoday.com/wave-pools. A pneumatic ram pushes on the water, causing it to create waves, just like in the ocean. With proper timing, you can then get these waves to behave predictably and follow a set course, making your swimming experience a lot more fun.

In the last few years, more homeowners have tried building a small wave pool in their yards. There are multiple videos online about their efforts. For example, Designing Ideas‘ post, Backyard Wave Pool Design Options, has information and photos to explore.

Green Décor

Green décor can transform how your home and garden appear and change its character. For more information on choosing houseplants, see houseplants for the classroom and home.

Green décor is a popular theme because of environmental concerns, and the changing nature of the atmosphere. Greenery helps to remind people of their commitment to the planet while also adding a unique character at the same time. A home feels more alive with living plants.

For great impact add a living wall of plants. A living wall is a great way to introduce greenery into your home or garden and refresh the space. It will create a modern and sophisticated look that will add interest and color.

HGTV has a post with instructions on How to Build a Living Wall. Below is a courtyard surrounded by vertical gardens (a living wall). It looks like a cozy spot for staying out in the garden, and chatting to friends and family.

Dramatic Lighting

If you can get lighting right in your home, it can totally change how it feels to be in a particular room. Conventional interior designers always lit rooms from the top, but more modern designers now see the value in different lighting approaches.

The most dramatic is perhaps recessed lighting. This is where you hide the bulb itself, perhaps on top of a cabinet out of line-of-sight, and then angle it so that it illuminates a wall or the ceiling. Another option is to include sconces. These are particularly atmospheric in hallways, guiding guests deeper into the interior of your home.

In Conclusion

To obtain a “wow” factor when decorating your home, you must have something that is unexpected. It can be a colorful wall, a mural, or unexpected lighting. Bring in branches, add large wall art, or try some beautiful effect you have seen online. You can create timeless appeal and personalize practically any room with DIYs and unique finds. I hope I’ve inspired you.

  1. These are all great ideas. I wish I had better lighting for planting. Everything I bring in dies, so I opt for fresh flowers because that’s just what they’re supposed to do!
