How to Refresh Your Home on a Budget

Most of us have had the experience of gazing around our house and not being content or inspired by its décor. Perhaps the wall color you once loved is now just tired and dated.

Whatever your motivation, periodically most of us need a refresh in our rooms. If you’re like me, that also usually means my changes and updates are on a small budget. Fortunately, there are a number of interior modifications you can do that can make a significant impact while requiring very little time or money from you. If you want to fall in love with your home all over again, let’s think about changes with little or no cost that you might like. First, give your home a deep cleaning and get rid of clutter. Your home will seem larger now.

Re-arrange Your furniture

One of the easiest ways to change a room is to move your furniture. I re-arranged my bedroom several times until I found the sweet spot for the bed to make the room look larger.

Shop Your Home

Accessories can add texture, a pop of color, or an interesting element to a room. Consider switching art, throw pillows, and other accessories between rooms. Change the look of the living room or bedroom by changing the pillow covers. I do this at least seasonally. I also love to rotate my art in the living room or dining room. Start a collection of pillow covers and there is no need for a big space to store throw pillows. Sometimes you can find the perfect new throw or cushion to totally change your room.

Add A Statement Wall

Statement walls are an easy way to make a big impact without having to put in a lot of time or effort. Additionally, they have a unique talent for enhancing the depth and vibrancy of your design.

A fun pattern or a splash of color on a single wall are two options. If you’re apprehensive about making a long-term commitment that you might later regret, explore the many stunning removable wallpaper alternatives available. Another idea is to install a layer molding tile layer to make the edges much more defined and give the entire space a more unique feel.

Update Your Window Treatments

Window coverings are like the frame of a picture; a little change to them can have a dramatic impact on the appearance of your room. And the possibilities are genuinely limitless. You could opt for curtains, and then you’ll need to choose the color and design for that. Or you might like the idea of blinds. If that’s the case, again, color is important, but there are actually many types of blinds, each one with its own unique style and benefits. Make sure you know the differences so you can choose the ideal new window treatment for your home to make it look wonderfully fresh and gorgeous.

Bring In A Rug

There is something about rugs that lends a sense of warmth and depth to every room they’re placed in. There is no better way to re-design your space and make it much fresher than with a new area rug.

The location of your rug is just as significant as the color and design of the rug you pick. If it is to go in the middle of the room, make sure there is enough space around it so that it doesn’t make the space look cramped. You might also want to explore whether it’s better to place your furniture outside the rug, or just on top of it. It does make a difference.  Check out Homes to Love’s post, How to Position a Rug, for designer’s tips on rug placement.

Change Your Bedding

The bed is the most important piece of furniture in your bedroom. Changing your bedding is the easiest and most cost-effective method to breathe new life into your bedroom’s décor. Everything from a hygge-inspired bed covered in thick blankets to bright splashes of color and intriguing textures is possible here; your only constraint is your own creativity.

These six ideas can help you start to plan a few changes that uplifts your spirit and helps you find a new approach to making your home comfy, cozy, and beautiful. Then you can decide what steps you wish to take, such as painting a statement wall or a whole room. Wishing you a cozy corner to welcome you home!
