Easter Egg Ideas

There are many creative bloggers who have shared cute egg crafts and design online. I have pinned so many cute ideas over the years, and this spring it is time to try a few. First, about a month ago I started saving my egg shells when baking or scrambling eggs. Instead of cracking an egg in two, I hit the top of the egg with a spoon. Removed the top section of shell and poured out the egg. The shell was washed well and set to dry. I will be using them as little vases later on. To hold the egg shell upright, I cut out cups from a cardboard egg carton.

The cardboard cups will hold boiled eggs as well as the empty shells.

I used a fine tip sharpie to draw faces on hard boiled brown eggs.

I shelled two of my hard boiled eggs. I made a small cut on top of the eggs.

Then I cut a thin slice of carrot to make a round top. I pushed the slice into the slit on top of the egg.

I made a small hole on each side of “face” for eyes. You can use seeds or any dark bit of food to make 2 eyes. For a beak, make a small hole between eyes and a little lower. Put fragment of carrot in hole.

I made 2 of these “chicks”. Then I put fresh celery leaves, carrot peels, and fresh rosemary on a plate for a nest. You can use any greenery like herbs, lettuce, etc. The two chicks are put on the nest. If the bottom of the egg isn’t flat, cut a thin slice off bottom to level. I put a lace placemat on a clear plastic tray. The plate of 2 chicks on a nest is put in the middle of the tray on the table.

I put the two decorated hard boiled eggs in cups on each side of the plate. I then added a little shell vase with water and periwinkles. A purple on each side of vignette.

I like the little vignette. I hope you enjoyed it too.

  1. i passed your eggselent ideas on to my Granddaughter who is now busily encouraging her parents and us into eating more eggs. Thanks Carol!

  2. What a clever idea, I’ve seen egg shells decorated dozens of times but I think this is the first time I’ve seen the actual eggs decorated. My kids would love this.

  3. This is too cute! Thanks for sharing on Happiness is Homemade at LifeasaLEOWife.com. If you tried to share on Crafty Creators this morning, I apologize for leaving last week’s InLinkz code on there. It’s updated and open for linking up new posts now.
