How to Add Spring in The Dining Room

Today let’s talk about easy spring decorating ideas that take just minutes and make a big impact. First, be sure you clean your windows so as the days get sunnier and green appears outside, you can enjoy it. Get dark heavy things out of the room. Pack away winter things and add a few items of decor that are cozy, comforting and reflect a spring mood. When your home comes with an architectural feature like a fireplace, that makes it easy to decorate the focal point. When you have nothing like that, it’s best to add items that give texture, add spots of color, or perhaps tie the room together. For my dining room, several years ago I added a photo ledge from Etsy on the wall behind the dining table. That gives the room a focal point. Seasonally, I often change the art on the walls to reflect the changing months. This month I started with moving my fawn print to the ledge in the dining room. A simple art print or rug addition can transform a space.

My fawn art print dominates the room. On the side wall, I added two small spring art pieces I made in the last few years.

First is my twig frame I made 2 years ago. A simple and inexpensive wall art using a dollar frame and sticks from the yard. The print of flowers in boots was bought from an artist online. Really you could change the print in fall or winter as the twig frame is perfect as a rustic touch year round and adds texture. I’ll have this print up until autumn.

Second is the egg carton dogwood flowers I made last year to add to a Dollar Tree frame. It is a simple craft and I love the look. These few additions continue the feeling I’m trying to achieve.

The main emphasis of a dining room should be the table. You can choose to display the beauty of your wood with a runner or cover it with a tablecloth. Changing the tablecloth or runner obviously is a main component of your look. Personally I love beautiful wood with classic white. A beautiful white runner with white china is stunning in its simplicity when paired with a beautiful dark wood finish. This year I covered my table with my favorite spring tablecloths – a base of white with a topper of spring colored flowers. I just love the pastel colors.

Now what do you put in the center of the table? A vignette? A vase of flowers? Yes I do like to buy fresh flowers for the table, but I can’t do that all the time. I like to make something appropriate for the month and shop my home to update a decor item. For a fun centerpiece, I made a fantasy combination of pink orchids and pink tulips. It’s a combination that really couldn’t share a pot and live happily. With my faux orchid pot I updated last year, I added pink tulips and a pick with a cute white bunny I bought at a thrift store a couple of years ago.

I hope you enjoyed the little spring update. Happy Spring!

  1. I really do love your frames and that’s just a wonderful idea. I like them both. Maybe I need to shop my basement (I have a few) and see what I can foof up!

  2. Happy spring to you Carol. I love a vase of flowers on the dining room tables, not always real flowers though. We are heading into Autumn here, but I don’t move a whole lot of items around as our Winters don’t get really cold. However its nice to have a change, isn’t it?

    1. Changing the flowers and tablecloth keeps it looking new which makes me happy. I don’t do huge changes either – don’t have time!
