Blue Skies & Spring Blossoms

Last year in my neighborhood I discovered a beautiful small tree with spring white blossoms. I shared it in a post on March 7th.  I talked to the home owner, and he didn’t know the name of the tree.  It  was a gift from his uncle a few years ago.  I studied the size, shape, and blossoms of the tree and I believe it is a large azalea grown as a tree.

Spectacular flower masses and colors, plant form, and evergreen foliage are among the reasons for the popularity of azaleas. Florida azaleas bloom from late February to early April, depending on cultivar and seasonal variation. Many azalea cultivars grow well in north and central Florida.

This last week I’ve gone to see the tree’s blossoms 3 times. The skies are blue and the white blossoms are beautiful against the sky.

Around the bottom of the tree are amaryllis.

White blossoms and red amaryllis shout spring is here in central Florida.

For those of you up north where spring comes later, I hope a glimpse of my spring flowers brightens your day.

  1. Nothing like blooms in the spring to make things look springy. Your photos are beautiful!!

  2. Gorgeous, Carol!!! We have gone from bitterly cold temps and blue skies to warm temps and lots of rain. Yuck! It is way too early for spring/mud season. So, yes, thanks for your pretty pictures!

    1. Mud season certainly doesn’t sound like a season that would bring joy. I hope your blue skies come back.

  3. We have a flowering pear tree in our backyard but it will be almost June until I see it blossom., so I loved seeing the pretty trees you shown in this post–it makes me anticipate the beauty of spring.

  4. My goodness, that is a spectacular tree. One of the things I miss from my time living in North Carolina, is spring. There, spring slowly takes over from one day to the next. Here in Minnesota the past three years have felt like it goes from winter to summer, without really enjoying spring. Thank you for sharing this beautiful post with the Weekend Garden and Tea Party Link-up!

  5. These flowers are beautiful and I can imagine how cheerful it is when you have such a tree in the neighborhood with full of flowers. Beautiful collage and I like these lilies too.
With my understanding, these flowers/tree is called ”Orchid tree” or ”Bauhinia”. You can find both purple and white varieties. I found these details because, few weeks ago I found a Purple orchid tree and shared few pictures as well.

    1. thanks for naming the tree – I will investigate them locally to see if the garden shops sell them.

  6. It really is beautiful and I know some of the bushes grow really huge here too. I’m seeing more things in bloom in the forest now too and lots of bees and butterflies! Enjoy your week!
