Red Sky at Morning

Red sky at night, sailors delight.

Red sky at morning, sailors take warning.

Sometimes the sky sort of grabs me. This photo taken at 7:30 AM is such a time.

When we see a red sky at night, this means that the setting sun is sending its light through a high concentration of dust particles. This usually indicates high pressure and stable air coming in from the west. Basically good weather will follow.

A red sunrise can mean that a high pressure system (good weather) has already passed, thus indicating that a storm system (low pressure) may be moving to the east. A morning sky that is a deep, fiery red can indicate that there is high water content in the atmosphere. So, rain could be on its way.

I was raised in Tennessee but have lived in Florida for many years. Love my small home in the Tampa Bay area and its developing garden. My decorating style is eclectic - some vintage, some cottage, all with a modern flair. Pursuing a healthier lifestyle. Spent many years in social services but am happily retired.

  1. Those are great. When I was still working and not so lazy I ran a lot in the mornings and saw some great color a few times. Reds, oranges, pinks, some purples. The early morning sky can be fantastic, as your shot shows.

  2. One of the things I miss about working at home is the commute I had and some of the wonderful red skies I saw in the east. Yours is pretty, too.

        1. It ain’t warm for Florida right now – would be for you probably. Cold front came down yesterday. High will be in low 60’s today. Yuck! Storm all day yesterday with rain. Flooding in some parts of Florida. I can stand it. Beats an ice storm or snow though. Have a fun day Paul.

    1. we had a cold front come in yesterday with a day of hard rain – flooding in some parts of Florida – nothing like the cold up north – high today in mid 60’s it’s cold and damp

  3. Our own goes “Red sky in the morning shepherd’s warning etc, etc. ” But I guess there are many variations on this, depending upon where we are in the world?

I love to make new friends and get to know you.
