A Soft October In The Living Room

My small home is located on the west coast of central Florida, and my county is northwest of Tampa.  My style is eclectic with coastal elements.  Fall decorating is often a problem because honestly orange doesn’t really fit.  This year has been stressful for me. A short case of COVID in August. A month later I get my flu shot and then had a mini-flu episode.  I am currently moving my photo storage online which seems to take forever.  What I really wanted in my home was soft colors and a relaxing atmosphere.  The main feature of my living room is the futon with the oil painting above it. It really dominates the room.  Adding pillows and a throw is how I change the futon to fit seasons, holidays, or my mood. Buying the wash and dry white futon cover is the smartest thing I’ve ever done.

Last July I wanted to get a new throw for the futon but in soft colors that would work most of the year.  I found a dusty pink chenille cotton throw online at Walmart.  I just love it. Remember Florida is a warm environment and 100% cotton is my favorite fabric.

The pillow I added is a brown embroidered leaves pillow I got years ago for fall.

On the table beside the futon, I added soft-colored flowers in a vintage hob-nail vase.  Then I finished with several faux pumpkins I painted a few years ago.

Across the room is a small side table with my framed inspirational quote and neutral flwoers.

On the wall to the side of the futon is my coastal swag I made over last year.

Across from the swag is my framed printable, Foxes.  It’s one of my favorites year round.

Below the fox art is a table with rustic coastal elements.

I made a vignette of a rustic pumpkin, wood beads, and carved wooden pelicans.

Until I finish the moving of my photos from the last 5 year’s, I won’t be doing any DIY or crafts.  I’ll use this decor through Novenmber until I’m ready for the holidays. My family will join me from Michigan on December 29th for a month. I have a growing list of tasks I must complete to be ready for 3 people to join me.

Thanks for the visit. I hope you are all enjoying your fall days.

  1. It really looks lovely, calm and serene. Moving the photos is a big job. We’ve done some but need to finish it up. It will be so nice to have family visiting!

    1. I got that pelican carving at Beall’s last year. It is one of my favorite things now. Hope you have a great weekend.

  2. I like it.
    It’s simple and liveable.
Sometimes I think people get really carried away with decorating. They must spend a lot, only to have to change it up every couple months.

I prefer lasting things that I don’t have to store for most of the year.

    Thanks for this.

    1. Ah, thanks Laurie. I agree bloggers can go overboard with seasonal decor sometimes. I’ve done it at Cbristmas. You know you have so many beautiful things but when you put them all out, I have to say this is too much. Hope you have a great weekend.

    1. how nice – you’ll have to come visit during the winter – central Florida is beautiful in the winter

  3. Oh I love your Living Room. Especially that frame! I like to use throws and pillows too.
We aren’t beachy here except the porch.
I know you will enjoy your family visiting.
I am asking for recipes on the fb group. There are already some good ones!
    Thanks for linking.
