Summer Flowers

Most of the plants in my Florida garden are tropical or semi-tropical.  Even though our occasional freezes can damage and even kill tropical plants, they flourish much better than more temperature plants in my full sun yard.  Most of my plants thrive in the hot sun and are easy to take care of.

If you have visited me before, you know I love my tropical hibiscus.  I love my newer single hibiscus in red which I got in June as well as the new yellow single hibiscus..

My frangipani (plumeria) trees have bloomed all summer. Now there are no flowers and in the next month the leaves will drop.

In the back yard, my aloe vera has bloomed this last month.

My Florida native plant, trumpet honeysuckle, grows on the arbor all year. Birds have made a nest in it, and occasionally just prior to sunset I see the fast wings of a hummingbirds.

My tropical croton bushes have no flower but are always colorful.  The heat and sunlight of summer make them more vibrant during the hot summer months.

My miniature Mexican petunias flower beautifully in the sun.

My periwinkle ground cover re-seeds throughout the year.

  1. Here in Tulsa we also have to have plants that love summer heat. My wife has Mexican Petunias, hibiscus, and several other plants that love the heat. She takes care of the flowers. I just wish the grass would quit growing. With the heat and the moisture the grass just shoots out of the ground.

  2. I sure did enjoy all your blooms! We can grow temperate clime hibiscus where I live and I have one, but some insect skeletonized all the leaves and it stopped blooming last week. So I had yours to enjoy. Croton here is a houseplant.

    1. Thanks for the kind words, but the grass is always greener on the other side as they say. You can grow many things I cannot. We must each embrace the best our areas have to offer.

  3. Your flowers are so tropical looking, absolutely beautiful! I remember the frangipani having an incredible scent, one that I could almost catch on the evening breeze right now in my memory. Thank you for all these lovely flowers, and for the ones on your aloe plant. I have never seen them before. Your garden must look like a tropical paradise with so many colorful flowers.

  4. Carol – glorious tropical flowers! Colors, textures, shapes! Thanks for sharing your summer treasures with everyone at Mosaic Monday!

  5. All beautiful flowers, Carol! I know the frangipani smell so good–we saw many growing in Italy. Your hibiscus are so gorgeous!

Sadly, a recent hail storm destroyed many of my flowers, especially my geraniums.

    1. oh no Pat – I’m so sorry to hear of your loss of flowers. For me flowers always make the day better. I’m wishing you a great fall!

  6. We have a lot of Mexican petunias. We bought the miniature version and they are so bushy and full of blooms every day! It’s nice to see colorful flowers here in FL. Happy Monday!

  7. Lovely Collection of blooms. I loved the beautiful shade of croton plant. Plumeria and Ruellia blooms are beautiful. Thanks for sharing with Garden Affair.

I love to make new friends and get to know you.
