A Friend’s Peonies

Peonies

Peonies are hardy to Zone 3 and grow well as far south as Zones 7 and 8. In most of the U.S., the rules for success are simple: provide full sun and well-drained soil. Peonies even relish cold winters, because they need chilling for bud formation.

Happy Father’s Day to All Fathers!!

I love peonies; they are so beautiful.  Like many northern plants, they don’t grow here in central Florida’s growing zone 9B.  So I enjoy the photos from friends and have to be content with my tropical plants.  Today’s photos are from my childhood friend, Carolyn.  We grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, many decades ago.  We went to the same college in Nashville, but then she went north to Canada. I came south to Florida. Now we’re friends on Facebook. Many thanks Carolyn for sharing your beautiful peonies.

I was raised in Tennessee but have lived in Florida for many years. Love my small home in the Tampa Bay area and its developing garden. My decorating style is eclectic - some vintage, some cottage, all with a modern flair. Pursuing a healthier lifestyle. Spent many years in social services but am happily retired.

  1. Peonies are a favorite of mine and the pink ones are at the top of my list. It’s a short season, but such a sweet one.

  2. Beautiful peonies. I love them too! We have a couple of deep red peonies in our garden, such gorgeous plants.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

  3. Thank you for these gorgeous peonies Carol, and please thank your friend Carolyn for sharing them too 🙂 I didn’t know that they couldn’t be grown in Florida, learning something new today. Enjoy the rest of your day and have a great week!

  4. I saw the peonies and did a double take as I thought they were growing in Florida. Of course realized you friend was from “up north” where I remember them in my grandmother’s garden.

  7. What a pretty pink Peony!

Mine also bloomed a couple of weeks ago and now the flowers are falling off. I have the same shape flowers, but mine are a very pale pink to white. I always bring some into my house to enjoy their beauty and scent.

  8. Those are beautiful! I have one bunch of peonies in our garden and I have been checking on them daily; so far I don’t have any buds yet but they are big and green and I’m hopeful I’ll see some buds soon.

  9. Many flowering plants thrived this spring with awesome shows of flowers, peonies among them. Normally a short season, but so many colors. I like your friend’s pink ones.

  10. Peonies are one of the flowers I would like to add to my Celebrity (painting) collection. Love this color! Many thanks for getting back to me about the plugin! Still in the process of deciding, since I just chose photoshop Elements, today! Jesh
