Neighbor’s Garden 2021

In June 2018, I visited a garden in my neighborhood several blocks from my home.  It had a pretty front yard with lots of flowers.

The gentleman who lives there is an avid gardener and even planted around the stop sign.

Over the last 3 years, he has transformed this flower garden into a coastal paradise that hides the home.

He went in a very different direction with his large bushes and must have wanted more privacy.  You can hardly see his home now.  A perfect example is this large sea grape bush (tree?) which is native to Florida around the beaches.

I do love sea grape bushes.

His home is on a corner lot. On the side of the house 3 years ago, he planted flowers to create a meadow. No mowing is necessary.

Now let’s take a look at the meadow today. It’s much more wild in appearance.

I find it interesting how his design totally changed and evolved.

I was raised in Tennessee but have lived in Florida for many years. Love my small home in the Tampa Bay area and its developing garden. My decorating style is eclectic - some vintage, some cottage, all with a modern flair. Pursuing a healthier lifestyle. Spent many years in social services but am happily retired.

    1. that’s what I was thinking – I understand as I no longer can do what I did 5 years go, but I do miss the beautiful flowers.

  1. It’s interesting and beautiful but I like to see the home wrapped around of beautiful flowers and different bushes, small bushes. I like the poodle bushes. See ya Carol.

  2. I wonder if the changes in the last 3 years are intentional or not. Your neighbor certainly did achieve privacy with his beautiful plantings.

    1. it’s beautiful but a little sad to me – I miss the cheery openess of flowers.

  3. I like the wild look, looks great and reduces maintenance including watering and chemicals I bet.
Even here in Tulsa, the newer parks use native plants to reduce costs. After I got used to the unkempt look I kind of like it.

    1. it does take getting used to – sadly I want more flowers but they take a lot of care and water

    1. thanks Denise – I always enjoy your stopping by and having a “talk” with you.

  4. Wow! That is a beautiful looking garden. It must have been very impressive passing by and seeing the amazing transformation taking place. I especially like the meadow he created.
