5-Minute Updated Faux Orchid

I admit I can’t grow orchids.  I have friends who grow them, but mine always die. So I quit buying live orchids. Several years ago, I bought a faux orchid in a basket at Ross for Less.  I liked the texture and rustic detail of the basket with stones on top. Below it’s beside the futon on a side table on a wooden slab. The shell-covered little basket behind it holds woven coasters. I have coastal elements throughout my Florida home.

For the last year, I have been seeing so many faux orchids in bowls –  Beautiful and often pricey.  Nope, I like my orchid and see no reason to spend a lot of money for a new one.  Could I update it?

I have a ceramic white pot that is the perfect size if I take the basket apart.

The basket is well made with strong wire framing the box.  I decided I did not want to tear it apart.  In two years, the basket look could be all the rage or I could just get tired of that white ceramic pot.  Today is not really a craft but a re-arrangement of a decor item to give it a new look.

I went through all my plant containers and found a white metal just big enough to hold the basket.  I added Dollar Tree floral foam to raise the basket and fit it tightly in container.

Then I added Dollar Tree moss on top, placed the orchid on a wood slab, and added a star fish.   A 5 minute and zero cost update to make a new look for the living room.

Now I have the latest look in home decor and no cost. You can’t beat that!

  1. …normally I’m not a fan of faux flowers, but taux orchids can look quite real.

  2. I bought an orchid a couple years ago and it had about a dozen blooms on it. I nursed it along and they lasted several months. Finally the last little bloom shriveled. I have be taking good care of it every since, watering, feeding according to directions, etc. It has grown 6 new beautiful leaves, but NO blooms! When it was blooming everyone kept asking if it was faux. Think I will get a faux and forget trying to bloom this one! ‘-)!
    Have a blessed day, Sharon

    1. I totally understand – I have killed so many orchids. They go down to nothing and never seem to come back. Congratulations on the green leaves. You’re doing better than I ever did.

  3. Oh my mother loved orchids. Every mother’s day we give here some orchids. When she got married her bouquet was full of orchids. I wish I could bring her some orchids in the mausoleum where she is buried they have locked us down. I can’t go into the mausoleum.
    Have a wonderful Tuesday Carol.

  4. I do alright with growing orchids but only until they start outgrowing their pot and then they end up dying. Your faux orchid looks beautiful in it’s new home. Pinned.

  5. I love orchids, and I kill them every single year after Mother’s Day or Valentine’s Day when my hubby and kids get me one! I’ve got to find a faux one like yours. It looks completely real.
