What Is Your Refuge?

Today is Valentine’s Day – Happy Valentine’s Day!

It’s funny how two or more people can be thinking the same thing at the same time.  My friend Maryce started me thinking about my home.  She wrote on Facebook:

“My home – my haven.  I surround myself with things that I love, a reflection of myself. It is a place of comfort from the chaos outside.”

A great antique and vintage lover, she shared this photo of a vintage vignette in her home.  I am also a vintage lover and appreciate how flowers and an antique chair keep Maryce happy.  I also believe my home is my haven and refuge.

On the same day, my friend Gloria posted what is keeping her happy during this stressful time. Panda just groomed with bow and scarf. Now this makes me smile.

I’ve shared before that flowers and houseplants keep me company and make me smile. Remember my smiling roses I shared last month?  Here is a photo from a vase of flowers I shared several years ago.

I have written before that I believe happiness and joy are a choice we must make each day. What is your haven and refuge?  What makes you smile?  Is it sunsets? Walking in the woods?  Seeing birds flying in the sky? Recent research has indicated that the greater variety of birds in an area is linked to greater happiness of the area’s residents.  More birds equals more happiness.  It totally makes sense to me.  Just like in old days in mines, birds are indicators of how healthy your environment is.  Being in nature makes us healthier and happier.

Wishing you a day of smiles and joy.

  1. I would say all these are lovely places to seek refuge. Your flowers are beautiful. Flowers in the home are always cheerful. Panda is adorable and the pretty antique chair and doll and kitty figurine is delightful. My refuge is a corner in our family room where I am surrounded by books and family photographs. Happy Valentine’s Day Carol 🙂

  2. Happy Valentines Day! I hope you have a wonderful day; full of things that make you smile. Yes, we all want to be surrounded by things that make us happy. Take care!

  3. Interesting and thoughtful post, Carol. Hard to choose between art and nature as my things to go to as comfort and joy. In the long run it probably would be art as my top one. Many thanks for sharing this with All Seasons – Indeed the doggie is a cutie, Jesh

  4. What an interesting post Carol! Lots to think about. Being out in nature (or even just looking at it) is my happy place …. and I love knowing that about birds , thanks for sharing that information. Indoors, I’m happy when I have a good book, and good food! I’m pretty easy to amuse ))).

    1. I’m happy in my home or a garden but I do love seeing others’ wildlife photos – nature is a great healer.

  5. My couch in the living room is my haven. I am a homebody and am happiest when I’m seated on my favourite spot reading, meditating, praying, blogging or watching videos.

    Happy Tuesday, Carol!

I love to make new friends and get to know you.
