December Home With New Floors

Today I’m happy to share my December home and my new tile floors.  In November I had new wood-look tile installed in my kitchen, dining area, and living room.  Old carpet and tile were removed, the concrete was cleaned, and the floor was tiled.  Everything in those areas was removed including furniture, art work, and even my kitchen pantry.  You may not have noticed but previously I never took photos showing my old floors.  The blue berber carpet and tile were installed a year before I purchased my home. I hated it but didn’t have the money or time to redo the floors before I moved in.

Now I love my floors.  I had one bedroom done last summer and now the main living area of my home is done.  That leaves one bedroom to tile to have the whole house done.  Hopefully it will be done in the next month or so.  Below is the dining room floor before and after new tile installation.

Having one flooring really makes my small home look larger.  I loved the look of this tile too as it reminds me of driftwood which is perfect for my central Florida home.   At the top is a photo of the front door with a Santa wreath.  You walk in the door and see a small side table with a snowman and child.

I have added a few more  snowmen throughout the living room.

On the futon, I have added red and black snowmen pillows.  I love walking into this room. A small Christmas tree is on the side table.

Below the Christmas tree is a thrift store St. Nicholas print in a gold double-frame.

To the right is a chair with a Christmas pillow; I made the pillow cover several years ago from thrift store placemats. There is a wreath above it and a wreath on the door beside it.

The wreath on the wall is a thrift store green wreath with red ribbons and flowers. I added a wooden Santa sleigh in the middle.

The wreath on the door I made from a green garland, a cloth rag doll angel, and a ribbon.

My livng area is in a U shape with one leg of the U being the living room and the second leg being the dining area and kitchen. To the right of the door separating the 2 areas is the dining table.

Last week I talked about decorating my photo ledge.   This week I have added a holiday runner on the table in soft colors with a bouquet of flowers and a woodland deer.  To the left of the vase is a new little cloth gnome I bought. He’s really cute and perfect for the vignette.

  1. Thank you for your tour. Your flooring is amazing, it really makes a difference when you have a floor to love. I love all your decorations, it’s clever how you have decorated your wreaths and everything seems to tie in together. I haven’t put any decorations up yet, but they will totally mismatched and random as usual.

    1. nothing wronng with that – that’s the way my decorating was for most of my life – I guess blogging changed my approach a litte, but it’s really about how you feel not the decorations

  2. I love your new tile floors. The color is so pretty. Your Christmas decorations are very well done. Enjoy the holidays and Merry Christmas (early!).

    1. It does get overwhelming to pack to move but you don’t move. When you do it, stay somewhere else a few days as the concrete is cleaned. The sound and dust will drive you insane.

  3. Oh Carol ~ your home looks beautiful for the Holidays ~ I have the wood like floor in my kitchen and main bathroom~ love it ~ Your decorations are so awesome!

  4. How wonderful you got new floors. It takes time for these house projects. We had ours done on the bottom floor last year after waiting for many, many years. Priorities were always elsewhere and it takes time to be able to invest in such a major project. Your new flooring looks super! I like your wreathe a lot and that’s a very cute snowman with child, pretty tablecloth and lovely collection of blue snowmen. I like how you have decorated your room with the white futon. In fact, your whole house looks really beautiful! and festive They put me in the holiday mood 🙂 Thanks Carol!
    Happy December 🙂

  5. We love our vinyl plank flooring, it is so easy to take care of…and the allergies with no carpet–is much better! Your home looks lovely—you will enjoy this so much! Hugs, Sandi

  6. Your new flooring looks lovely! I bet it is so nice to have that construction behind you. Lots of cute Christmas accents; I just love those snowman pillows.

  9. Your home looks lovely and festive. Lovely Thrift shop finds among them. Your floor looks great. I agree how using the same covering makes the whole house feel bigger. We’ve done the same. Your futon looks quite inviting! #mmbc

  10. Whoo Hoo!!! New flooring! How exciting. I love the one you chose. And you’re right, running the same flooring throughout a home makes the space appear larger. I did the same thing. Enjoy them and have a great day!!!
