Water Taxi on Las Olas Boulevard

Ft. Lauderdale is known as the “Venice of America” because of its many beautiful waterways. One of the best ways to explore the city is from the water.  Water taxi staff provide a narrated excursion ride that includes historical and fun information about the many mansions and mega yachts that line the waterways.  There are a 10 stops in Ft. Lauderdale, and 1 stop in Hollywood at the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort and the Historic Hollywood Broadwalk offering live entertainment nightly. Additionally, Water Taxi operates a complimentary Water Trolley that is supported by the City of Ft. Lauderdale that makes 8 stops along the River Route.

Since I am not traveling during this time, I found some old photos from a water trolley ride on the New River in Ft. Lauderdale.  The river connects to the Intracoastal and Atlantic Ocean at one end and to a canal system providing access to the Everglades on the others.  Today’s photos are from a short trip around Las Olas Boulevard area in downtown Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  The water taxi has a free service around Las Olas Boulevard and a paid water tour covering a larger area.

Stranahan House on New River is the home of Fort Lauderdale pioneers Frank and Ivy Stranahan. Built in 1901 as a trading post and converted into a residence for the Stranahans in 1906, the house is the oldest surviving structure in Broward County.

    1. Yes there are a lot of sombodies with yachts in Ft Lauderdale – a place for the rich during the winter. It is a fun ride for sure.

  2. Carol – maybe it brings out the peeping tom in me … I would be fascinated to “tour” the homes and yachts along the waterway. Thanks for showing Mosaic Monday this unique aspect of Ft. Lauderdale!

  3. Indeed, I know Venice but was never before in Ft. Lauderdale. Thank you for sharing this Post, I enjoyed reading. To drive with the water taxi must be cool.

  4. I would love riding on a water taxi! That area is SO beautiful and I’ve enjoyed your photos! Have a good day! It’s raining here but I have inside projects planned for the week. How are you?

  5. I’d love to do that water taxi ride, stopping off here and there. There’s nothing quite like a boat ride to relax us, unless you get sea-sick I suppose.

I love to make new friends and get to know you.
