End of September Home

My home is filled with coastal colors which is not easy to change for fall. This year the seasonal changes to my coastal Florida home are the addition of more wood, textures, and neutral color.  My front door opens directly in the living room.  I made a gallery wall last year at the entry with a vintage farmhouse sign, a framed piece of art by my father, a framed house blessing, and a white wooden hook for seasonal changes.  This fall on the hook I have a vintage thrift store wreath I got a couple of years ago.

The farmhouse sign has the words:  Cherish Life’s Simple Pleasures.

My father’s art is a pencil drawing of an antebellum home in Mobile, Alabama. I’m guessing it was drawn abount 1950 before my family moved to Tennessee.  I had it framed around 2000.

I bought the house blessing back in the lates 1980’s and have had it on the wall close to my entry in every home since.

It is a print in an elegant style from centuries ago with gold and a beautiful font.  The words start with:

A House Blessing

Bless the corners of this house

And be the lintel blest

And bless the hearth,  and bless the board,

And bless each place of rest…..

The ragdoll wreath adds more natural texture and color.

When you enter the living room, your eyes are immediately drawn to the futon and my large floral painting which is done in colors of the sea.  I added two burlap pillows for autumn. As I’ve mentioned before, I have a collection of pillow covers and totally change the look of the room by changing the pillows.

The pillow covers have the look of burlap with a pleated ruffle and 3 burlap roses.

On the left side is my grandmother’s table with a fall coastal vignette, shell & flowers arangement on a wooden slab with a large wooden pelican.  On the wall is my diy farmhouse coastal mirror.   I put a woven basket of coasters on the left side and a small wooden pelican on the right.

On the right side of the futon is my sunset in the Florida Keys painting by my friend Mary. I rotate my art from room to room to make a new look.  It’s totally free and so easy to do.

Across from the painting on a half-wall is my framed print of Autumn Is A Second Spring Printablee over a small sunflower vignette.

Autumn is a second spring where every leaf if a flower.

The fall vignette below is on a small white table.  I started with a brown woven mat and added a woven wood pumkin on the left and a potted sunflower in a metallic vase on the right.  I like that it has lots of texture plus a pop of color.

On the door between the living and dining areas I hung a woven bird.

In the dining room the focal point is the fall picture ledge with a copy of an antique heron print.

On the table, I have added a shell and a small brown vase with cotton bolls beside the rustic pumpkin with cotton bolls, flowers, and burlap leaves.

In the corner of the dining room on my small rustic wood stand is a scarecrow vignette.

I have the DIY twig framed burlap rose on the wall.

My little scarecrow was a thrift store find.  He’s by one of my shabby chic pumpkins I made 2 years go

  1. Oh my gosh Carol, my mom had that exact same House Blessing (same prayer, same plaque exactly) on the kitchen wall the whole entire time of my childhood and I don’t know whatever happened to it. I can still recite the Blessing by heart after all these years (many many years). I have sweet memory tears in my eyes! …. ok, going back now to look at the rest of your post, but that picture stopped me in my tracks. Thank you!

    1. I would love to have more things on the wall from my mother but I don’t. I’m just lucky to have some of my father’s art. Sweet memories are the best, aren’t they?

  2. I love the sign in your entry encouraging all to enjoy the simple pleasures, and how amazing to have the print from your father. Thanks for sharing this fun tour! I’m visiting today from the Friday Favorites link up. Have a great weekend!
