Living in Central Florida, I have touches of coastal decor in my home year round. Last spring I added pastels to my living and dining rooms. Summer I went with hot tropical colors. For fall I am going rustic by adding texture with wood and burlap with lots of neutrals and tans. On www.beallsflorida.com, I saw a bunch of faux shell arrangements using succulents and on Pinterest, there are amazing shell and floral arrangements. I don’t want to spend $30 or more and was inspired to try making an arrangement with one of my real conch shells from Key West.

Most arrangements online are made with faux shell planters. Bealls has faux shells for sale in the local store. My goal is to use items I already have like the real conch shell to make a shell and flower arrangement for fall. I did buy one stem of faux feathers and grass at Dollar Tree. I already had faux succulents, foam to cut to fit the shell opening, and small neutral fall flowers.
I cut flower foam and put it in the shell.
I added 2 faux succulents (from Dollar Tree) that I removed from the little planters.
One by one I added 4 small flowers with leaves in back of the succulents.
Behind the flowers I added faux feathers and grass.
It was a quick and easy crafting project. I love how it looks. I moved it to a slice of wood on the side table in the living room and put my DIY coastal mirror above it. I added a wooden pelican and my woven coasters to complete the fall vignette.

…fall can be a beautiful and special time, enjoy it.
Here in Maine, coastal elements show up in lots of fun ways, too!
I visited Maine back 20 years ago and really enjoyed it. A different flavor of coastal but a wonderful experience.
I never would have thought of doing this. My sister-in-law gave me two beautiful conch shells she found on the beach. I’m going to give this a try. Thank you Carol, lovely post!
thanks Denise – I think you’ll have fun doing it too.
Great idea, Carol. I have a lovely shell at home — when I get back, I may need to try this one.
If your shell has a nice opening, you can make this easily and quickly. Good luck!
