Lagerstroemia, commonly known as crepe myrtle, is a genus of around 50 species of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs native to the Indian subcontinent, southeast Asia, northern Australia, and parts of Oceania, cultivated in warmer climates around the world. It is very popular here in the southeastern USA in growing zones 6 to 10.
One of my sumer loves is the crepe myrtle trees throughout central Florida. They come in colors of white, light pink, and a vivid dark pink. I have a large crepe myrtle in the back yard with light pink flowers. In the front yard is a younger tree with vivid pink.
Today I’m sharing a few close-ups of crepe myrtle blossoms here in the yard and neighborhood.

Eventually the flowers are replaced by lots of seeds.

Wishing you blue skies and beautiful blossoms.
Last year I shared several photos of the front yard little tree.

Thank you we’re experiencing warm days and blue skies here in South Yorkshire. I have seen Myrtle shrubs here, but Myrtle trees must be even prettier.
Some crepe myrtles grow into trees and others are shrubs. They are all gorgeous!
I never realized that the flowers were replaced by seed pods; interesting!
it’s true of many of my plants including Florida natives fire bush and the trumpet honeysuckle
…a plant that I wish that we could grow.
The crepe myrtle is so pretty. I love the photos.

I love the wood of a Myrtle tree, we brought some back as a souvenir from a trip to Oregon a few years ago #mysundayphoto

These beautiful trees/shrubs aren’t hardy enough for my climate zone. Alas! They will grow in Southern New York State but not where I am…and I love them so.
