New Port Richy, Florida is a suburban town on the west coast of Florida NW of Tampa
A little town close to my home is New Port Richey. We’ve visited it before with posts on Tasty Tuesday’s farmer’s market and even gardening ideas from the professional landscape around the City Hall.
It has a cute downtown on Main Street with older buildings, including some Art Deco buildings from the 1920s and 1930s.
Let’s take a ride.
When I was house hunting some years back, I really wanted to live close to downtown New Port Richey, but it would have cost me almost double the price I paid for my house. So I bought in the county and just visit the little city for special events.
Of course since the pandemic there haven’t been any festivals or events downtown or in Sims Park on the Pithlachascotee River. The restaurants are open again, but I don’t go to them. I’m still staying home as the new cases here in Florida are record breaking.
We’ll close with a few photos from the bridge over the Pithlachascotee River overlooking Sims Park.

We visited New Port Ritchie when we visited my sister in Florida this year. We had lunch at a good Italian restaurant and sat outside on the patio, even though it was in January. Thanks for bringing back good (pre-Covid) memories!

Hi Carol, I enjoyed your beautiful photos of New Port Richey. My husband and I lived there in the late 90’s for a couple years. His job moved us around a lot, so when we left there we headed over to the east coast of Florida. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
At the time we had a puppy that we were teaching the ropes to. We walked every day, and some of those days were down town.
Yes New Port Richey is a nice little town, but I know you must have enjoyed being on the oceanside of the state too. I lived in S Florida for years, and the ocean is just better than the Gulf in some ways.
Yes Carol, as beautiful as New Port Richey is I enjoyed the east coast better. We lived in SE Florida before, and again after we lived in New Port Richey. At that time my husband’s job moved us around Florida frequently.
The photo you have where the bicycle is in front of the river is where I used to walk our dog most mornings. I remember walking her along the pavement on the right side of the photo. She was learning to walk properly at that time and I remember walking then stopping and she learned she had to stop and sit (weather permitting or she could stand) when we stopped walking – and all the etiquette things of a well taught dog. We lived a hop, skip and a jump from where that photo was taken. I could walk there in about 2 or 3 minutes.
It was said that at one time Shirley Temple Black had a home in New Port Richey. Her home was located in the neighborhood on the left side of the photo where the bicycle is.
I didn’t know that – I’ll have to try and find it. Thanks for the info!
