Lemon Sugar Cookies

Sometimes the simplest things are the best. Sugar cookies are a great example of that.  A simple cookie that can translated into many treats with icing and decorations.  Today’s recipe is a simple sugar cookie with the addition of one of my favorite flavors, lemon.  It’s a pretty basic recipe with the addition of lemon juice and lemon zest.

To make the cookies pretty the tops of the balls of dough are dipped in sparkling sugar right before baking. Sparkling sugar has a coarse texture and a brilliant sparkle that makes cupcakes, cookies and cakes really shine.

  1. I make a batch of cookies every two weeks for my soldier son to take back and eat with his friends. Every time he wants chocolate chip. I am going to tempt him with this recipe. They look so good! #MMBC

  2. Your lemon cookies look so yummy, I haven’t seen sparkling sugar on sale in the UK but will certainly look for it next time I go shopping. Today I failed to make a buttermilk cream frosting for my carrot cake cup cakes so am thinking I’ll take a break from baking for a few days!

  3. I love lemon anything this time of year. It always lifts my mood. These cookies sound delicious! I can’t wait to give them a try!

  4. I love the idea of making cookies but mine always burn. My youngest can make them perfectly though. Phew!

  6. I don’t really like sugar cookies because I find them to be rather bland but I bet they are delicious with a litlte lemon added! Thanks so much for sharing with us at Encouraging Hearts and Home. Pinned.

  7. We love to bake cookies. I must admit I never used to like anything lemon flavoured, but as I’ve got older it’s kind of growing on me. I’m going to make some of these with the boys.
Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend!

  8. These sound so good, perfect for a summer snack. I may even throw in some white chocolate chips.

  9. My daughter recently sent me a lemon cookie recipe that sounds just like this one. They are delicious and I’ve made them twice! Thank you for sharing at Party In Your PJ’s.
